Lidernen - 1:10'000 alpine map.
This map was originally going to be used for Swiss O-Week a few years ago, but which got cancelled due to mudslides. Finally got to run on it. To get to the start however was a tough 1h trek up the mountain. Didn't settle down well and probably also started dehydrated.
First few controls went okay, but I took the wrong route choice on the first long leg to #4, not going straight enough. We then had the nicest section of the course with a few alpine ponds and small glacial features. After that however, the planning wasn't so great, focusing on areas that were extremely un-runabble. We had a section of this from #11 to #13, which was then followed by the 2nd long leg. I messed the route choice up again here, first by crossing the broken limestone ground again, then crossing another large section. Very dangerous sections. After that we had a final swing through more technical terrain, but by then I was mentally out of it. I miss-punched for the first time ever in Europe at #19, where I was too tired to notice the wrong control code (out by 40m on a similar feature?). In the end, took me almost 2 hours for 7.5km!!! Winning time was only 1h18, so not brilliant either. Most of the top Swiss runners stayed away. I could probably have run about 20 mins faster on a good day.
