Adventure Racing race (Paddle) 30:00 [4] 4.0 km (7:30 / km)

Kinetic Full Moon Adventure Race at the Vaal Dam

Team Cyanosis - with Mac, Ryno and Hilary

Leg 1 was a quick 4km paddle across a limb of the Vaal Dam for a drop and run. Pulled out of the water right behind Jabberwock.

Adventure Racing race (Run) 46:00 [5] 6.0 km (7:40 / km)
shoes: Salomon Crossmax Red #2

Run around a peninsula for a few CPs. Gap to Jabberwock remained constant, with us being 50 - 150m behind them all the way. Hot weather.

Adventure Racing race (Paddle) 1:13:00 [4] 10.0 km (7:18 / km)

Leg 3 - Paddling from the peninsula to RAU Island. We caught Jabberwock and got about 1m ahead of them at the take-out.

Adventure Racing race (Run) 45:00 [5] 6.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Salomon 3D S-Lab Red #4

Run around RAU Island. Very hot conditions, but a cool wind. Pretty much matched Jabberwock the whole way, cutting a few corners on them.

Adventure Racing race (Paddle) 13:00 [4] 2.0 km (6:30 / km)

Quick paddle from RAU Island to Yacht Club for T1. Race leader positions unchanged.

Adventure Racing race (Transition) 6:00 [1]

Transition from paddle to bike

Adventure Racing race (Bike) 1:15:00 [4] 32.0 km (2:21 / km)
shoes: Specialized Epic FSR Mthn 2014

Leg 6 of the race - first bike leg. Left transition right behind Jabberwock. Cobus was taking a bit of strain so we slowly pulled out a lead. Apart from 1 gradual climb, fast flat dirt roads to a remote game farm. Got into transition with about 1-2 min lead.

Adventure Racing race (Transition) 4:00 [1]

Super quick and effective transition. Gained about another 1 min....

Adventure Racing race (Trek) 1:57:00 [4] 9.0 km (13:00 / km)
shoes: Salomon Sense Mantra 3 grey/or

About 1km into the hilly trek I was throwing up on the side of the track due to heat stress. Jabberwock caught us about midway through the leg, but I had another bad episode. They capitalized and surged, quickly opening a gap as it was getting dark.

Adventure Racing race (Transition) 4:00 [1]

Final transition onto bikes

Adventure Racing 3:10:00 [3] 66.0 km (2:53 / km)
shoes: Specialized Epic FSR Mthn 2014

Managed to recover on the last bike leg. We worked well to keep the speed up, but the damage had been done by Jabberwock and they maintained their 15 min lead, even opening it up by a couple of minutes by the finish. The bike leg was extremely boring.... long flat dirt roads out to the N3 highway and back to the Vaal Dam. Once again the average speed was extremely high by AR standards.

A solid victory by Jabberwock. We would probably have been in trouble even if I hadn't been throwing up.
