10-hour Mini Munga Training Ride from Bidon Bistro.
6am start from Bidon, with 3 other bikes up front originally (Kyle Brummer, Ross Jacobs, Piet Laubscher on a tandem).
Steady until the Magaliesburg downhill, with Kyle testing us every now and again. I lost Piet's tail on the long downhill and had to work hard to re-catch by New Thorndale turnoff. The pace upped a bit from there with Kyle and Ross going off the front just before the Vlakdrift downhill. I also couldn't hold Piet's tail on the down again.
Settled down on the Death Valley climb, with the waterpoint just over the top near Syferfontein, where I recaught Piet. Pulled away after that but was slowly reeled in by a slow-starting MC Lamprecht on the way back to Tarlton (deja vous, as per 2 weeks ago) and he surged away again at the Nirox Circle. So 4th in the end (Kyle 6h16, Ross 6h22, so a long way ahead).
A strong 26km/hr NNW wind during the latter half of the ride back towards the Cradle, unfortunately more from the side than the tail, with a few stinker headwinds every now and again. It kept the temperatures feeling a bit cooler than the official 24'C though. Saw Piers and Franco out training when we came home past Oaktree.
