distance from Melbourne GPO: 45km

MAP IT

Run (stockyards) 40:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno flats

when I got back to the drysdale road carpark, a guy pulled up, and when he was getting out his bike, I noticed he had a familiar drink bottle...

only three days since I lost it too.

Wednesday Nov 29, 2006 #

Note

frustrating.
feel really motivated for a run and ride, but should have a rest day today.

Tuesday Nov 28, 2006 #

Run 30:30 [3] 8.0 km (3:49 / km)
shoes: Mizuno flats

just around.

felt really good. could have been the fact that it was the earliest I've gotten up in a week...

Run warm up/down 9:00 [2]

Bike (northern you yangs) 50:00 [4]

Drysdales Road - Stockyards fire break - Twister Gully - Rockwell Run - Stockyards Road - Inner circle - Barro's loop - stockyards road - Quarry Pit Track (black) - Barro's loop -Inner circle - Rockwell Run - Twister Gully - Stockyards.

pretty great.
nice sunny weather.
I WISH I'd brought a camera. the photos would have put a stop to those nay-sayers who claim the you yangs is unfit for orienteering (I'm looking at you neil and blair). I didn't ride through a single section of terrain that could have been considered less than complex.
The new tracks have opened up some pretty amazing forest. I spent the time riding around the moderate tracks in the lake basin and took a few difficult sections.

The terrain alternates between erosion and granite.

This needs to get mapped soon.

had to cut the ride short because 40 mins in I went to grab my drink bottle and found that I had lost it somewhere along the way, and I was already feeling dehydrated. RIP

Orienteering 1:00:00 [1] ***
shoes: Mizuno flats

Putting out checkpoints for two of the three races.

Succesful day.
Geoff Hudson got swept down the yarra.

Bike warm up/down 15:00 [2]

upper legs really sore from kayaking. went for a short slow ride to loosen them up. had a play on the BMX track.

got swooped by a wattle bird for the first time. it followed me for about 100m then I had to stop to cross the road and it just kept swooping me. I was wearing a helmet so was lightly agitating.
would have knocked it out of the air if it wasn't for my immense benevolent fuzzy golden love-filled heart.

have tafe in croydon all week. predict not much training I am afraid.

Orienteering (Brimbank Park) 40:00 [4] *** 7.0 km (5:43 / km)

Street-O tonight!

Run race (Newport Lakes) 45:00 [4] * 10.0 km (4:30 / km)
shoes: Mizuno flats

my route

bad route choice!!!
felt really good for the first half. nice strides.

started to lose rhythm just after 5 running into the wind. saw Tony Bird on the way to 9. how could I lose it from there? ( he had headed out to 12 after 2?)
lost all pace picking up the last four, and some bad route choices.
beaten by Tony and SCHEPISI. and Brian A took a similar circuit to me but had better route choice through the clusters, which was frustrating because I kept passing him.

schepisi's route was under 9km, the advertised route was 9.5km. I guessed mine was 10km.

Monday Nov 13, 2006 #

Bike (hardman) 50:00 [4] 15.0 km (3:20 / km)

finished all the assignments last night!!!

woken this morning by a howling wind. by 3pm the wind hadn't died down so I decided I would have to just grin and bare it.

absolutely flew on the way out. bad sign
spent the last 5km riding directly in to the 50-60kmph wind and rain.
now my face is numb.

Sunday Nov 12, 2006 #

Note
(rest day)

decided to sacrifice training today in order to get all my tafe assignments done so I wouldn't spend the rest of the week procrastinating and missing training opportunities.

It claims there is a thunder storm going on around here. no sign of it so far.

am stepping up to phase two of my training program tomorrow!!
bome big sessions coming up in the next two weeks!!!

core strength / weights session.

copped out. was going to go for a long intervals session today. I feel a bit guilty, but this is the first time I haven't ran to program since I started it. so I guess it is OK.

Prof. Stuart gave me a lecture on the downfalls of my training program. I didn't realise how blatantly effective his is.

Sunday Nov 5, 2006 #

Note

wasn't feeling too up to an intense intervals session after last night.
decided to go for a ride out to the laverton lakes map and do some field work.
