Orienteering race (Campbell Park) 39:00 [3] *** 7.5 km (5:12 / km) +100m 4:53 / km
shoes: VJ twisters

Nice return to orienteering.
one mistake; got beaten by sebba, am OBVIOUSLY unfit. :)

went to the event with a carload from college, there are 8 of us turning up to the twilight events, so a chasing start order has been developed.

Looking forward to the next one!

Orienteering warm up/down (Weston Creek) 1:00:00 [2] ***

running around like a mad man

Sunday Oct 14, 2007 #

Run warm up/down 10:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Mach 7

Warm up for road relay; up and down daley road.

Run race (Road Relay) 4:00 [5] 1.5 km (2:40 / km) +20m 2:30 / km
shoes: Brooks Mach 7

3rd last leg of the B+G road relay team; our 3rd runner (of 8) made a minute and a half lead (girls 3000m), and we never dropped it.
don't know what time I did, but I was clocked at 3:20 over the Sullivans Creek Rd Bridge; which isn't that far from the finish (john's college).

Pete Sheldon was our anchorman (mens 3000m), and he held the massive lead which had blown out to 3minutes.

We broke the 7 year winning streak of John's College!

Orienteering (Weston Park) 20:00 [3] ***
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 10

Just doing a last minute check of everything before Friday.

Also as a loosener before the run tomorrow.

Note

Went to Canberra Girls Grammar yesterday for some work stuff;
looks like a nice area for a sprint map.
so many of these around canberra.
I think my to do list at the moment looks like:
Hospital Point (Half finished)
Yarramundi Reach (Half finished)
Black Mountain Peninsula (no fieldwork)
Weston Park (needs to be updated severely!)
Gossen Hill??

Orienteering warm up/down (picking up checkpoints) 1:20:00 [2] ***
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 10

long on/off recovery run picking up the flags from the weekend session at Bruce Ridge. faster than the ride.

The rest of the Gossen Hill block looks alright for a little map

Orienteering race (Oceania relay) 50:00 [4] ***
shoes: VJ twisters

went out (3rd leg) 4.5 minutes down on NZ (Simon Jaeger).
Fast spur gully and was clean around the first few. Hit the top of the course at 5 and flew past Jaeger running up the next spur, with the challenge over and still feeling great, I forgot to keep orienteering and ended taking 22 minutes on leg 6. nearly caught Jaeger again by the finish.

sorely discontented.

Orienteering race (Oceania Long) 1:30:00 [4] ****
shoes: VJ twisters

still feeling sore;
flew out to the first one felt amazing; then flew out to a vague hillside covered in rock; 12 minutes on a 2 minute leg.

never really picked up and after a few more mistakes was feeling quite demoralised. but continued hammering on.
pretty disappointed with the whole affair.

Orienteering race (Oceania Sprint) 14:00 [3] ****
shoes: Brooks Mach 7

was feeling pretty sore from the night before, so I decided to take it really easy; never felt like I pushed it at all; got passed by Greta going around the spectator loop. how embarassing.
made a few mistakes, but still managed a third.
Which makes me lose faith in Australian orienteering.

Bike (Bruce Ridge) 1:45:00 [2] ***

Putting out flags.
nice day; went down a few tracks I haven't been down before. Most of them the usual boring bruce ridge business.

Run warm up/down 15:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Mach 7

Run race (Time trial) 4:30 [5] 1.5 km (3:00 / km) +21m 2:48 / km
shoes: Brooks Mach 7

Time trial for road relay team.
4:30 to the front of the changeover box then 4:38 to the end.

slower than I had hoped; but I was the only one running, so hopefully some competition will pull me along a bit at the next trial.
am thinking around 4:20.

Orienteering race (Oceania Middle) 35:00 [3] **** 4.5 km (7:47 / km) +100m 7:00 / km
shoes: Brooks Mach 7

turned up a little bit late and only had 20 minutes to get changed and run to the start (which was 15 minutes away);
First time I have worn these shoes for a while and they felt amazing.

Took it easy through the first few; caught Ollie, made a few mistakes; also lost about 40 seconds trying to cross a creek at the wrong spot and getting stuck waste deep in the vegetation.
But felt great around the rest of the course (this could be due to lack of significant climb); lost a bit of time running to a lower cluster, picked up the time on Ollie before the spectator control but then lost it again at the second last where I saw a checkpoint in the distance and bashed my way towards it and lost a lot of height.

overall was a really enjoyable day; the new section of the terrain is great, although as with the rest of the map, the rock was mapped a bit minimalist.

In stark contrast to the reaction from yesterday's race where I questioned why we go orienteering, Jasmine asked 'How much fun is orienteering?! atleast 4 times on the way home. I assume she is still saying it.
