Orienteering 1:53:18 [5] 7.49 mi (15:08 / mi)
shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw 300

JK Day Three - W21L - Kilnsey Moor (Yorkshire)

Really messed up today, despite my best attempts to just slow down and navigate correctly. I found it really difficult to match up the more technical and niggly contours on the map to real life. Also made a HUGE mistake in attempt to find a pit...I ended up taking bearings from four different locations before I finally found it.

Weather was crazy. Started out alright, although a bit windy, and ended in horizontal rain soaking us to the bone. Later it rained even worse and then hailed--was very happy to be warm and back in the tent at that point!

Overall I am really frustrated with how the weekend went, although I had a lot better focus today I am not really sure where I went wrong and why I found it so difficult. Perhaps I should try orienteering more with maps solely with contours present, so that I connect better to these in competitions. Perhaps it was mental? Or fatigue? The terrain? Not knowing where I went wrong is why I am so frustrated I guess. However, if anything this has made me want to orienteer in loads more competitions, so that I can get a grip of more diverse areas and get more experience under my belt. I loved the feeling I have had in my last couple races in having navigated a lot more correctly, and am gonna get that back.

Run with Áine towards the lines and then all over creation on trails! Happened upon quite a few picturesque farms--totally need to go back to this area to explore more. Found an adorable pony and a farm that sells eggs, only problem is that it is quite a trek to the farm to get them. :P
