Yesterday's leg issue was just that my leg was really tight and all it needed was some chill stretching and rolling. Still better that I didn't run longer yesterday. Today felt good and enjoyed going easy and all around Helsinki!

JK, I was planning on running for an hour or so but I had to stop because my whole left leg started hurting badly... I don't know if it was the cold or these shoes that I haven't used in a week but it hurts. Not good, not good man

Note

Today I started a new job as a chauffeur for all the 5 star hotels in Helsinki. I had no clue how my first day would go but I was a bit nervous. I got even more nervous once I got to the garage in the morning and learned that I wouldn't be driving the car I had prepared for. Instead, as one of the drivers was so sick, I got to drive one of the most expensive cars that the company has. That made the boss a bit nervous too but for nothing. I had the best working day of my life and the car was back at the garage in one piece too! Awesome job, I want more!

After a couple k I had the idea to hit the CR on two nice uphill segments in Paloheinä. So I slowed down a bit just before both of them and then gave it all until the top. Sadly I hadn't checked exactly where the segments start and end so I slowed down too early and missed the CR on both of them... I'll try tomorrow with better knowledge!

Very decent hill workout. Did both 5k and 7k loops at Paloheinä. Goal was to go all hills up very fast and then roll downhill and keep the speed as far as possible. Then rest of the flat parts more easily.
It was raining a lot but I had good tunes and I was enjoying every step, love pushing myself without going all out! More trainings like this.

Finnish Sprint Champs Qualifier
Off to a good start, very close to the lead until #7. Then +35seconds at #7 and +25seconds at #8 messed me up so well that I had no chance to make it to the A-final. Sprint is brutal.

Finnish Sprint Champs M21 B-final
I had no motivation to run this one, none whatsoever. But as I could easily make it to my train even if I ran, I decided why not.
It was really windy and cold which didn't help but I still got off with a good start. After #4 I was feeling really good, both physically and mentally(after nailing all first 4 controls), so I increased my speed a bit and still felt great. SO now I started really racing against myself, to make the rest of the course full speed no mistakes. That actually went really well and I was very happy about my performance. It also made me smile when I saw that my name jumped up to first place on the board when I finished!

I ended up winning the B-final with a tied first place with Gleb Tihonov!!!

Finnish Relay champs M21 2nd leg
My first leg runner, Ollipekka, lost a bit at the end so I just missed the big main group at changeover by 20seconds. I tried to start really fast to catch that group but just couldn't. Had a good run until the first online control, I had only lost 30seconds to the lead. After that, going to #4, after the big marshes, I failed side hilling to the control and ended up down on the left at that open rock field 300m from the control. I just couldn't figure it out as I had folded my map so that that open rock field was on the other side... lost almost 3 minutes there... After that it was all good and fast. Really short leg tho and I was all alone. Tomorrow Sprint!

WC3 Norway Relay 3rd leg
We decided with the boys that Morten runs 1st leg instead of me cause I had sprinted all my energy out yesterday in the race, while he still had some energy left.
All 3 of us were really tired before the race and we all made mistakes. I was waiting for Giacomo when the lead came to the finish, there went my motivation. I still tried to hype myself up to do a super run. But once I got the map and started running, I knew right away that today was not gonna be the best. To #1 it was still okay, focused and reading everything. But then I got totally distracted, mind drifting to the wrong place(thinking about this year's races, how well I've done) that I had no idea where I was coming to #2. I even pulled back to the trail to relocate but no chance. My mind was still wondering for #3, #4 and a bit to #5 too. Lost it so badly at those controls, 4-5minutes...

At #5 I stopped and closed my map. A few seconds of breathing and clearing my head. Listened to my heart and found the beat clearly. Map open and go again. From the heart.

After that, I kept going all the way until the end. No mistakes, no hesitations but very tired. I was dying in the downhill coming to the last control. BUT, I decided to go all out for the last time this year. And it totally paid off: fastest finish chute split(23seconds), so fast that the announcer stopped the award ceremony to mention me running in ;)

Very happy about all of the things I learned about myself racing all out this weekend. Now its time to shut it down for a few days and then... I'll think about that then :)

WC3 Norway Prologue
Really tight start with a lot of very short legs from the start. Made more than a minute of mistake to #3, stupid route choice so I ended up looking for it too early, should have gone on the trail. After that, it was okay but I couldn't get ahead of my orienteering so it felt like I was in a hurry all the time.
It was fine but could have been better, I felt kind of exhausted from the beginning. After this weekend I'll take some time off for sure.

WC3 Norway Pursuit
I wish I had a better start spot but had to go with what I had. 94th starter, a few places behind Morten. When I started, I knew I had a small gap to the train infront and a guy 4seconds behind me. So, I checked that for the first control I needed to push hard following my compass bearing until that big cliff behind #1. I started seeing the guys that started in front of me and sped up to catch them after the control. We kept that fast speed and started catching more people that started before us.
Coming to the spectator control I was already so dead so I found myself at the end of the train passing the arena. After that we had a long leg. The whole train in front went straight but me and Morten went around with the rest of the that group following us. We came to the control before the people that went straight!
I held on to that group even if I was totally dead. Going to #15 I saw an opportunity to hit hard in the downhill and by really hammering it down like crazy I made my way up from last to second in that 15people train.
I kept my position until the second last control where all of us made a small mistake and once I found the control I put all out and sprinted down to the last control like an animal.
Fighting for all of it, I crossed the line with two other guys and we tied!!

At the end, made up 16 places and lost only like 5-6minutes to the lead!!

One tough running performance and a fun tricky, fast technical in the morning combined to a very very exhausting but memorable day!! Looking forward to the world cup in Helsinki next year with this type of race!!
