Running 38:00 [2]

A fine sunny day in Adelaide.
Easy run to recover from the drive and prepare for tomorrow's race.
Felt magnificent, so did a couple of short surges to get the feel for how I wanted to run the race.

Note
(rest day)

Long drive to Adelaide after work. Left Melbourne at 4pm. Arrived at 12:15am.

Running intervals 55:00 [3]

Plan was to do the interval session fairly, but not at full pace, and run at the back of the pack.
Felt bad on the warm up, and struggled to jog to the start. Started the intervals, but felt really bad and struggled to hang on to the back of the pack.
Ran 1250m, 1000, 750, 500, 250 with 1.5min rest in between. Got through the session, but only just.

Running 55:00 [3]

2 laps of the Botanical in reverse. Moderate pace. Certainly not as fast as our new World Champion, Hanny Allston.

Running hills 49:00 [4]

Airlie Street Hills x 7, 2m30s turnaround
Best I have felt on the hills for 3 months. Managed to run in the front 2 or 3 of a pack of 20 runners for each interval and led the recoveries back down the hills.

Running (Recovery) 53:00 [2]

Fawkner Park easy run. Feeling pretty good considering that yesterday was a steep run.

Orienteering warm up/down 25:00 [1] ****
shoes: VJ Sarva #3

15 min warm up to get warm! It was only 6 degrees.
10 min warm down to fetch my long sleeve top that I left at control #5.

Orienteering race 1:12:15 [4] *** 9.7 km (7:27 / km) +550m 5:48 / km

Victorian State Series #7, Sailors Creek.
Complex erosion gullies on steep spur gully terrain.
Almost no competition for me today. 2nd place was over 13 minutes behind so it is a bit hard to know how well I ran.
Navigation was good, and I only lost 1 minute on the course. However, my concentration was poor at the beginning where my technique was a bit sloppy.
Forest was slippery and I had to be very careful on the down slopes.
The key to orienteering well on the steeper parts of Sailor's Creek is to plan your gully crossings well (minimising the walking/climbing.
Green in gullies is now a bit inaccruate. They were all very slow, but the map was not much help to find the faster bits.
