Orienteering intervals 42:00 [5] ***

Bendigo Ironman - New Saint Mungo
(4 x 2km handicap format races)
Couldn't get anywhere near the winners, but a combination of a tough training week and a difficult handicap didn't give me much of a chance. I felt quite strong at times during the race, and could have kept going for a long time, but my top speed was not as fast as Troy, AJ and Jymbo.
Dissappointed not to get more technical training, as it was pretty much follow the leader for most of the races.

It's been a big Neil Craig style week! 4hrs intensity 4 or 5 running. Hopefully I will see the benefits in late September - just like the Crows. I just hope I can run a bit better than they are playing at the moment.
Looking forward to an easier week leading up to Queensland.

Orienteering 40:00 [1]

Warm up, warm down and jogging between races. Gap between races was much longer than advertised, so it was a bit difficult to keep the legs warmed up with over 30min gaps.

2 laps of the tan in reverse. Moderate pace.
First lap in 17.00, feeling a little uncomfortable at times after hard day yesterday, but settled down and felt quite good on the second lap in 17.30. It's been quite a tough week, so felt ok considering the hard sessions on Sun, Tue and Thu.

Tempo hill run.10 x Airlie St continuous.
Best I have felt this week. Kept the heart rate high by pushing the pace along on the downhill. Led the pack for the first 5, and then ran away from the pack over the last 5. Much stronger than the same session about 4 weeks ago.

Pissed down with rain as I got back to the Yarra. Really cold too!

7.16 up Anderson St hill
2.43 recovery
6.48 gentle downhill
2.41 recovery
7.15 gentle uphill, then down
Pushed hard on second interval, but felt tired on 1st and 3rd.

MFR run from the Dalheim residence.
Longish easy run with Nicola, Tash, Ilka, Jasmine and Stuart. Stuart got lost in the dark after a 'natural break' and I had to run back and find him.
Served with Risotto for dinner and oranges for dessert.

Won South Australian Championship - Long Distance, Men's Elite.

Felt good on the warm up, and was confident that the open flattish terrain would suit me.
The first control was in detailed rock and scrub, so took it easy to make sure I spiked it. Then increased the pace over the longer second leg and got into a good rythm.
Caught 2 minutes on Torgeir Watne by control 10. Torgeir was running well, and was with me for the remainder of the course. A lot of the controls were hidden in scrub or tucked right under rocks, so having another runner around certainly helped with these. With mostly open terrain we were always in sight of each other, but we were able to push each other all the way to the finish, and ran significantly faster than the remainder of the field.
Simon Uppill said he felt quite slow and could only manage 87 mins.
Rob Lewis got excited when he saw me on the way to 11, thinking he had caught me 2mins, but I was actually crossing over on the way to 14 (about 1km ahead of him).
This was my 5th SA Long Distance Elite title, following wins in;

2004 Twigham
2005 Coffin Bay, and now
2006 Ngaralta Country
