Orienteering (Terrain Running) 1:40:00 [4] ** 17.0 km (5:53 / km) +500m 5:08 / km

Melbourne Forest Loop 2 laps
First lap easy with Rob Lewis and Blair in 43 minutes.
Second lap season best 37:10.
Best ever time for a second lap and felt great and had good rythm.

Actually ran past a native aboriginal playing a digerido in the forest!

Running 1:00:00 [3]

Morning run on south side of the Yarra to Studley Park boathouse, returning through the middle of the park.
I came across a 9 year old girl and her younger brother searching for their dog, but unfortuately couldn't help them too much.
Calf was no trouble today.

Running 44:00 [3]

One and a half laps of the tan. Moderate pace. Would have liked to have run a bit further, but didn't want to puch my calf too soon. It felt much better today. Very little soreness, and if anything got better throughout the run.

Note
(rest day)

Rest day today - being cautious with a tight calf at this stage.

Running intervals 45:00 [3]

Ladder 250, 500, 750, 500, 250
Calf felt tight again (but no worse), so discarded the rest of the ladder session, and jogged an easy lap of the tan instead. Calf felt better by the end of the lap.

I have decided to stay away from any speed sessions for the rest of this week as a precaution.

Running 47:00 [2]

MFR run from Susannah's in South Yarra.
Reasonable pace with Blair, Nicola, Clare and Owen. Suse, Ilka, Mace and Jasmine took the shorter option.
Right calf felt a little tight, as it has been for a couple of weeks on and off. Will treat with caution coming up to WA.

Orienteering race (State Series) 1:08:57 [5] *** 10.8 km (6:23 / km)
spiked:15/18c shoes: VJ Sarva #3

State Series #10, Carroll's Springs (Spargo Creek)
Mostly a good run on an area that I hadn't seen for about 9 years. A couple of annoying mistakes though. Should have run about 66 minutes.

Solid start, but lost a little time on 4 as I didn't read a minor bump on the map which was a significant gully on the ground 200m before the control. Was 1 minute down on Naunton at this stage.
Settled into a nice rhythm and had taken the lead by 3.5 minutes by number 9. Couldn't find the pit at 10 and lost 60 seconds. Got distracted by this and lost confidence on the next leg. I was very wayward and lost 90 seconds here. My lead was back to 90 seconds.
Took the left track/road option on the long leg which allowed me to increase the tempo again. Ran the fastest splits on 5 of the next 7 controls (including steep uphill legs), and lost only 20 seconds to the ideal time on the last 30 minutes of the course.

My running form is starting to resemble that of the Crows. I had a couple of sluggish races in August where I was suffering from some hard training. This week I seemed to have turned the corner and felt faster and stronger. I'm hoping that this form continues until the end of September for both of us!
