Orienteering tempo (Street O) 45:00 [4] *
spiked:19/20c

6th wedding anniversary today!
I still remember the morning wedding orienteering event held at Pujaba Ridge and won by Alex Randall.

Park/Street Orienteering - Yarra Bend Park
60 minute score event, but I collected all of the controls in around 45 minutes.
After losing time on a dodgy first control, I caught 200m and then sat on Tim Hatley for a few controls. I waited for him to make a poor route choice, and then increased the tempo, winning by about 3 minutes.
Tash is quite keen to get fit again, and is running better each week.

Running warm up/down 30:00 [2]

Run from home to Yarra Bend O event and back.

Orienteering race 1:38:20 [5] ****
spiked:26/30c

Victorian Long Distance Championships - Mt Beckworth. 5th place (8 mins behind)
Felt quite good in the warm up, but unfortunately that didn't translate into speed on the course. This was evident from the splits. I felt good on the uphill 1-2 leg, but somehow lost 30 seconds over 2 minutes! I think the food poisoning earlier in the week had hit me harder than I thought. Also, I guess I was making the elephant tracks in the dry grass that led many of the later starters into the controls. The tracking was surprisingly distinct, but didn't help me much as the first starter.
Adrian and Simon ran the best and strongest races of the day. The other places were pretty much decided by start orders and who caught who. In fact, even Adrian and Simon's order were probably determined by who was able to run in a group for the longest period.
Before the big climbs, I was in a good position in 3rd, in a close bunch of split times with Warren, Blair, Jim and Evan. From that point, each of us 5 had strong sections which corresponded to running with either Adrian or Simon. Unfortunately for me, it wasn't until 70 minutes into the race. I ran strongly until the end, including a leg over the top of Mt Beckworth when Adrian, Jim and I all touched the lollypop tree on the way past.
A fun race, but just a shame that the organisers didn't seed the start orders a bit better.
