Running 50:00 [3]

3 laps of the 2 bridges between Swan St and Anderson St. I felt a little tired today, but it was not really a problem for an easy run.
There were plenty heading to the G today. I think there will be a big crowd. Normally I'd like to go to the second session, but it's live on TV in Melbourne, so I'll save my money and watch at home.

Running 35:00 [2]

Another cat run this morning, looking around the streets for any sign of Daisy. Again there was no sign of her, but I saw 5 or 6 other cats.

Cycling (MTB) 45:00 [1]

A broad sweep of my suburb on dusk to look for our missing cat. I found 19 cats and 2 possums, but no Daisy.

Running warm up/down 30:00 [1]

Slow jogging around the neighbourhood looking for our stupid cat, Daisy, who disappeared from our yard yesterday afternoon. She usually spends time outside in the garden, but doesn't wander off like this. I'm beginning to think that she may not come back.

Orienteering tempo (Street O) 34:30 [4] **
spiked:17/18c

Yarra Bend Street Orienteering.
Very hot conditions - about 37, so I took it easy at the start. I kept an eye on Simon, Blair, Warren and Scammell. I didn't really want to go to the first control that they all went to, but it is more fun to stay with the pack (especially on a hot day). A few of these guys took a very wide route to this one, so it was actually hard to stay behind. Once I saw the majority of these guys head for the bridge I took off after Adam (who was leading). Warren and I had moved to the front by the third control and we started to build a lead.
After a couple of dodgy control placements (par for the course) near the par 3 golf course, my lead had extended to over 50m. A 5 minute surge was enough to extend this to 150m and from then on, I just did enough to make sure that no one was in sight behind me. I still had a fair bit in reserve, but I didn't want to go 100% today in the 37 degree heat.
I finished about 90 seconds ahead of Blair, 3mins ahead of Simon, 4 ahead of Warren and 5 ahead of Adam.
My biggest worry was making sure that I was ahead of Simon, who ran in the opposite direction. I passed him at 19mins, so in theory as long as I finished in under 38 minutes I should have been ok. Still you never really know because when you only need 18 out of 20 controls, the reverse course is not always symmetrical to your own. When I finished in under 35 I was sure that this would be good enough, and it was.

Running intervals (Botanical Fartlek) 57:00 [4]
slept:8.0

2 laps of the Botanical Fartlek with the Midday Milers. I felt ordinary on the warm up, but I actually won a couple of stages (5 and 10) out of a group of 20 starters. I was in the top 5 in every one, and top 3 in most of the second lap. I guess there were a few unfit guys still recovering from xmas and new year who were struggling just to keep up on the floats in between stages.
Overall I was quite happy with my run today. I was very tired yesterday afternoon and evening, so I tried to get 8 hours sleep instead of the usual 6 that I have been getting lately, and I ate a bit more for dinner last night to get some more energy.

Running 59:00 [3]

River Run - up to MacRobertson Bridge and back on the other side. I was looking forward to a nice easy stroll today, but the group moved along a little faster than I was hoping for today. Still - it was slow enough to have a few comfortable conversations.

Running long 1:50:00 [2]

A much shorter long run this week, but I still managed 110 minutes. I ran a couple of hills through Ivanhoe, and then a flat last hour crossing the Yarra at Banksia Rd in Heidelberg and then back along the river trails on the southern side.
The cool change was in, and there was quite an annoying head wind for most of the return, but at least it was better than 30+ temperatures.
The evening was spent at the MCG to watch 20Twenty cricket match under lights with the whole family. It was Sophie's first visit to the G (at 5 weeks of age). She may have been the youngest at the ground out of around 12000 people. The boys liked the music and big hitting, but their attention span still only lasts around an hour. Still it was good free entertainment.
