Early morning jog and stretch

Orienteering race 39:40 [5] *** 6.5 km (6:06 / km)
spiked:13/16c shoes: VJ Sarva #4

Easter Day 1 - Twigham
Quite a poor race. Approaching number 3 I noticed a couple of unmarked knolls before the creek. I then read the control as being on the Earthbank, but it was on rocky ground 20m further on. After searching the Earthbank, I ran off down the creek, confused by the knolls. After realising my mistake I never really got back into a good rhythm, and was orienteering fairly sloppily for the rest of the course. It seems hard work running, but I don't think I was moving as fast as I would have liked. I also lost another minute at 11, looking too far down the creek to the left.
I should have been able to run about 36 minutes with a good run.

Orienteering warm up/down 10:00 [1]

An abbreviated warm up after having to leave Mason and Sophie both crying at the assembly area. Mason had lost the other kids on the string course, and Sophie was just hungry. A bit of a distraction, and certainly not perfect preparation for a race.
Still there is not much you can do when you are a parent.

Orienteering race 16:11 [5] *** 3.2 km (5:03 / km)
spiked:17/18c shoes: VJ Sarva #4

Easter Prologue - World's End
I felt a bit flat on the warm up. From the start, the course looked a bit tricky. It was steeper and more complex than most sprint races I'd been in. I ran ok early, but was being a bit careful and probably a few seconds. At 5 I was too far to the left, and as I realised my mistake, Shep caught me. From then on I tried to hang on, but it was mostly uphill and I tired. For the last km, I wanted to run faster, but my legs didn't have anything left, and I could only struggle in for a mediocre time and 10th place.

Note

I'm off to Burra today, so the updates may be a bit sparse until I get back to Adelaide next Tuesday.

Running race (Corporate Cup) 12:57 [4] 3.83 km (3:23 / km) +50m 3:10 / km
shoes: Nike Zoom Air Elite 07 #5

Corporate Cup Round 3
12:57 - a good sharp session, but not 100% flat out. Still, I managed to run under 13 again, which I have only managed about a dozen times in over a hundred attempts.
I've dropped the volume this week, but I still wanted to do something fast to keep me sharp.

Running 35:00 [2]
slept:9.0

Single lap of the tan.
A felt a little sore and off colour yesterday, but that seems to be fixed now.
I was feeling a bit flat early in the run, but after a lap I was moving well again.

Stretching 10:00 [1]

Felt overtired from yesterday, with a hint of a sore throat, so I took it very easy today and went to bed early.
I think it was a combination of running quite hard for 15km, plus the dissappointment of the Crows pathetic performance against Essendon.

Running race 52:30 [5] 14.8 km (3:33 / km)
shoes: Nike Zoom Air Elite 07 #6

Herald Sun Run for the Kids
A fun run with 26,000 competitors through Melbourne's Domain tunnel and over the Bolte Bridge.
I went out conservatively, in around 3:45 for the first km dodging thousands of people who had worked their way to the front of the start line. I then settled into what felt like a nice comfortable pace (as it was a longer fun run than I am used to). This plan seemed to work, as I kept passing people until about 11km, which gave me a lot of confidence and helped me keep up my tempo. The km markers were inaccurate, so I'm not sure of my exact pace, but I must have been belting out a series of 3:30s.
I passed Slips at 3km, Dozer at 4km, Piotr Czakowski at 6km, Warren at 7km, and finished just 5 seconds behind top adventure racer Jarrad Khoeler.
Hanny did very well, coming third women, about 75 seconds ahead of me. I think she had a prefered elite start, so I never saw her until after the race.
Other orienteers included Kathryn, Dion, Kirsten, Ilka, Sophie and Adam.
All in all, probably my best ever fun run, including a 10km pb on the way to a good time over the supposed 15.2km course.
Apparently I made it on to Channel 9 news. That will teach me for watching 7 :-(

Running warm up/down 30:00 [2]

Warm down included a slow lap of the tan with Hanny and Kathryn.
