Running hills 1:10:00 [3] 13.8 km (5:04 / km)

Hill session in Kew on a warm morning with Blair and Nicola.
I ran well up all of the hill accelerations, and it didn't feel as hard as the Airlie St session on Thursday. Blair seems to be doing well on the long runs, but he found the hill surges tough. Nicola lasted about 4 hills before turning back.

Running 45:00 [2] 8.0 km (5:38 / km)

Easy run in the morning to avoid the heat. Quite slow today, recovering from yesterday's tough session. My legs took some time to get moving properly, but improved later in the run.

Running hills 1:15:00 [4] 12.0 km (6:15 / km)

Airlie St hills in hot conditions. A tough session!
7 hills, 230m long, 30m climb, every 2.5 mins
0.52, 0.51, 0.51, 0.50, 0.51, 0.54, 0.56
Good start, finishing in the first couple of the group on all of the first 5. I struggled at the end of the last 2.
We were all exhausted, and the warm down took a while with several drink stops.

Running 1:04:00 [3] 11.5 km (5:34 / km)

First run back with the Midday Milers for 2008.
2 laps of the tan, increasing the pace on the second lap. First in 17.50, then 16.10. I actually felt quite good at the end, probably due to the relatively cool condititions today (only about 25).

Running 1:01:00 [3] 12.7 km (4:48 / km)

A hot one to start the new year. A solid run up the river to Burke Rd and back on the other side. I was moving ok, but by the end of the run I was suffering in the 9am heat.
Not surprisingly, there was little traffic, and a few joggers out on the first day of their new years resolution.

Running long 1:21:00 [2] 15.6 km (5:12 / km)

Back home after a travel day yesterday.
Today's run was early to avoid the worst of the 42 degree heat. I took the Merri Creek path upstream for 43 minutes, and then increased the pace a little on the way back to negative split it.
I felt quite tired throughout the run, especially early, but that didn't surprise me after driving all day yesterday.

While listening to the radio I got a preview of channel 7 top 7 Aussie sporting moments for 2007, in no particular order:
Aussie Surfing World Champs x 2
Geelong's 2007 season
Libby Lenton 5 x world champion
Jana Rawlinson world championship
Casey Stoner Moto GP
Aussie Cricket World Cup
Cadel Evans Tour de France etc

Not a bad list. As it was only seven, they had to leave out Melbourne Storm, Aussie Netball World Champs and Melboure Victory (well they had a good start to 2007!)

Any thoughts?

Note

Well that's it for another year of training.
For the record my season stats were:

Running 274 hrs, 342 sessions, 3400km
Orienteering 65 hrs, 75 sessions, 600km
Cycling 4hrs, 2 sessions
Other 5hrs, 29 sessions

Total 348 hrs, 448 sessions, approx 4000kms

I've now been orienteering since 1987, and my 21st year was a good one. The highlights being winning the Victorian Long Distance and Middle Distance champs, 2nd at a NOL Sprint race and 3rd Aussie at the Australian Champs in middle distance and a good Oceania Champs weekend.
On the other hand I was disappointed to be ill or injured at Easter, Australian Champs and the Vic Sprint Champs.

I've been training seriously since 1990, with approx 1 year off due to injury, so my careers stats would be something like:
68,000 km run
1500 orienteering sessions
approx 30,000 controls punched
