Orienteering race 15:20 [5] *** 3.0 km (5:07 / km)
spiked:16/18c

SA Sprint Distance Champs - Cantara Dunes
3rd behind Simon 14:00 and Blair 14:42.
The course was held in the more open, friendly part of Cantara, but it was still difficult navigation when running at full speed. Certainly much more difficult than the normal sprint course.
I made no real mistakes at controls, but I did not always travel via the most direct route. Blair made a few seconds on me with my routes to #5, #6 and #11. He then pulled away a few seconds more in the last km through fitness.
This was the hardest that I had run for 60 days, and I was blowing quite hard at the end for about 5 minutes.
Fairly happy to be within 80 seconds of Simon, considering being injured and unfit.

GPS route

Orienteering warm up/down 30:00 [2] 4.0 km (7:30 / km)

Warm up with Blair and Jim towards the beach.
Warm down with Mason and Torren on course 4.

Running 45:00 [4] 9.0 km (5:00 / km)
(injured)

Mona Fartlek.
Good solid session, although I didn't push the offs very hard.

Running hills 40:00 [3] 8.0 km (5:00 / km)
(injured)

Hilly run to Bellbird Dell and return. Again a short, sharp session, and mostly pain free.

If I can keep this up for another few days, I may consider removing the injury flag from my runs.

Running 40:00 [4] 8.0 km (5:00 / km)
(injured)

500m on 500m off - 1 lap of the tan.
I usually do this session as 2 laps, but again my strategy is to keep the sessions short so that I can continue to train without breaking down.
I found a little bit of speed (just under 1:40 for 500m), but it was a bit harder work than usual.
Still I moved without too much trouble today and seem to have pulled up ok.

Running hills 45:00 [3] 9.0 km (5:00 / km)
(injured)

A bit sore in the warm up. Small pain around the right buttock and groin.
I decided to tough it out for a few minutes, and it seemed to get better.
I ran another short but hilly session over a few hills to Bellbird Dell and then back again.
I pulled up better than how I started the day.
