Note
(rest day)

No time for training today, but it was not really a rest day.
Entertaining 15 kids for Mason's 7th Birthday Party was full on.

Note

Much more success lat night - at both ends of the computer screen!
A fantastic race by Kathryn, especially the second half.

In fact Kathryn's finish was even better than I first thought. From controls 11-F (her last 5 minutes), Kathryn was 26 seconds faster than the winner! Her splits were awesome, possibly some of the best series of legs ever seen by an Australian at WOC level.
Splits with leg placing in brackets.
1.02 (1) 0.17 (2) 0.28 (1) 1.04 (1) 0.22 (2) 0.31 (3) 0.44 (2) 0.33 (3)

At my end I managed to fix the bugs that were preventing Windows Media Player from playing the streaming audio/video after doing a bit of research on the net. As it turned out, installing my mobile phone synchronisation software on my computers had registered .mms files to a Nokia Multimedia application. Windows acutally needed these to be registered to Windows Media Player so that it knew what to do with them when they hit the browser.

For the sprint final I managed to have my desktop setup with live video and ENGLISH commentary, a laptop setup with the map and course, and another laptop with live timing and the World of O live blog. Just to prove that I can do 4 things at once, I also had the Ashes on the adjacent TV in the study.

It's going to be harder to juggle again tonight with AFL and Athletics on at the same time too.

Running 45:00 [2] 9.0 km (5:00 / km)

Lap of the Botanical course in reverse.
Feeling quite tired and leg weary today.

Running 50:00 [3] 10.0 km (5:00 / km)

Out along Yarra Boulevard in the dark, and back through Yarra Bend park once the sun rose.
All day work meeting prevented me from attending the normal lunch time session.

Note

Frustrating time watching the WOC Middle final live on the net.
The organisers live video and audio failed with both my desktop and laptop. Windows Media Player could not load the live streams for some reason. I tried IE and Firefox, along with a couple of versions of WMP. Perhaps I am missing a codec, but I have tried a few new ones, and nothing seems to work. Did anyone else in Australia get it work? If so, what was your configuration?
I never have problems with other videos such as YouTube or SBS Tour de France, Athletics etc.

The live timings were very flaky, and the live GPS tracking only worked for part of the women's race.

The best I could get was the free finish TV broadcast (playing through a flash plugin on my browser). The video quality was excellent. The problem was that it was in Finnish, so the commentary was useless.

I used the World of O live blog to try to follow what was going on.

Note

Another good footy weekend with the Crows winning on Friday night (always a good start to the weekend).

My SuperCoach team won a thriller semi final, getting up by just 10 points, 2242 to 2232. Nick Riewoldt was my captain, so his mark and kick after the siren probably got me over the line, although it wasn't good enough to get his team home (much to Blair's relief).

My DreamTeam won its qualifying final last week, so had a bye. This weekend will be a beauty with 2 tough preliminary finals to play.

Running 1:00:00 [2] 12.1 km (4:58 / km)

Fawkner Park plus warm down up to the bridge.
Plenty of talk in the group today of AFL ladder predictions, and how far we could run in 9.58 seconds.

Running long 2:00:00 [3] 22.64 km (5:18 / km)

Long run around Yarra Bend Park and Kew including several hills. The run started with unpleasant gusty winds, and got worse in the last half hour with solid rain coming down sideways straight into my face as I was running in a northerly direction through the hills of Kew.
