Orienteering 43:24 intensity: (1 @0) + (6:41 @1) + (10:33 @2) + (11:53 @3) + (14:16 @4) **** 5.5 km (7:53 / km)
ahr:141 max:165

Orienteering training at Fiddler's Green, Eaglehawk.
I put tapes out for the training run.
It is a great technical area for point features, much more like Europe than Australia.
I almost stepped on a brown snake near the end which freaked me out a bit.

Orienteering race 19:01 intensity: (19 @1) + (20 @2) + (15 @3) + (57 @4) + (17:10 @5) **** 3.84 km (4:57 / km)

BendiGo ToDay Sprint Race
Diamond Hill
I felt fresh in this race, but I was a little hesitant running in the rough terrain. My speed was good though, and I was able to hang on to Simon for most of the second half of the course.
I lost a little on 1, searching for the plate control, but otherwise the run was clean. I just didn't see the fast track routes on some of the longer legs. I need to take a few seconds more in bush sprints to find these options.

Running 54:33 [2] 9.99 km (5:28 / km)

Easy run around the tan.
I felt tired, so I was glad that it was just an easy run today.
We saw some D grade celebrities run "Go The Tan" at lunch. Kouta beat Andy Maher and Glenn Archer along with a couple of ex-Galdiators. Bob Skilton and hundreds of primary school kids were further back.

4 x 1500m
Merri Creek and Main Yarra Trails
I had to convince myself to get up early and train hard after again a race last night. Once I got going I didn't feel too bad.
My times (see GPS link) were a bit slower than on the track as I ran on some undulating bike trails.

My favourite TV show was back last night. 3 hours of LOST was superb. A 1 hr recap of the first 5 seasons followed by the first 2 hours of season 6.

Cycling 30:00 [2] 8.0 km (16.0 kph)

Riding to and from Street O, plus picking up a couple of controls.
7 PM

Orienteering race 43:59 intensity: (20 @1) + (12 @2) + (1:32 @3) + (14:20 @4) + (27:35 @5) 10.17 km (4:19 / km)

Park & Street Orienteering at Yarra Bend
Also the unofficial Melbourne Forest Racers Park & Street Championships for 2010. The MFR field was Blair, Simon, Shepisi and myself, but most of the other top Park & Street runners were there including Bryan Ackerly, Scammell, Andrew Baker and Tony Bird.
Knowing that I needed 18/20 controls and there were more than 2 across the river, I took off in that direction straight away. I decided to break up the pack immediately and put in a sub 4min/km to see who could hang on. Schepisi was able to stay close and ran with me around the Studley Park loop. I missed a short cut over a fence going down to Gallatea Pt that he got, and fell I behind. I scrabled down the hill to catch up and slipped, somehow knocking my right tricep with my knee as I tried to maintain balance and not fall over. My arm ached for a 3 or 4 minutes and I had to slow down, with Schepisi getting away by 100m. As it recovered, I was able to increase the pace and I was close to him again by Studley Park Rd. I let him decide which direction to go, as this was a major route choice problem. I took the west side of the Yarra to Dight's Falls along the bike track, looping under Studley Park Rd on the way. By the falls I was in front by about 100m and never looked back.
The last 5kms were more straight forward. I just had to decide which 2 controls to leave (12 and 9), and keep the pace high, managing 4:05 average for the this period, including a few climbs and punching lots of controls.
I finished in front by about 90 seconds with another 4 or 5 minutes to the next group of runners.

Running 51:26 intensity: (8 @0) + (7:35 @1) + (16:55 @2) + (12:53 @3) + (5:23 @4) + (8:32 @5) 8.53 km (6:02 / km)
ahr:140 max:179

4 stage progressive
Tan
KM splits
3.47, 3.28, 3.32, 3.19 continuous.
I was running late from a work meeting, so I only got to do the last 4km, which was not a bad thing, as it was the fastest part of the session.
It turned out that I was able to stay with the leading pack for the first 3km, and then I tried to stay as close as I could for the last 1km, ending up in 4th place out of about 15 runners.

Monday Night Run
from Blair's house
A warm evening, but the run was gentle and I felt quite good, especially in the second half.

Yarra Bend Park
Long Run.
Cruised along the trails with Blair for the first 30 minutes, and then also with Tash for another hour. The run included some hills in Kew in the second half that I handled pretty well.
