Orienteering warm up/down 15:00 [2] 3.0 km (5:00 / km)

1 PM

Orienteering race 11:28 [5] ** 2.56 km (4:29 / km) +54m 4:03 / km

Race 1 - Moderate navigation
I was moving quickly and tried to hang on to Bryan for the first 2. David Brownridge was also moving quite well at the start.
I took a gamble and went straight on 3, but that didn't really pay off and I lost some ground. I pulled back some time on Bryan near the end, but that may have been because the last control was misplaced by 20m on the wrong track junction. It was no real problem though as it was very obvious.

Mason and Torren found it ok on the easy course with no complaints. I guess that they will learn the orienteering skill of nit-picking once they gain more experience ;-)

Orienteering race 19:52 [5] ***** 3.58 km (5:33 / km) +94m 4:55 / km
spiked:24/28c

Race 2 - Hageby
A very complex course with 28 controls in 3.1km
Lots of short legs with directions changes in complex detail. Really good fun.
I finished with a DSQ after pucnhing an adjacent boulder at 15. In a standard event this would not have been allowed, but this is the Orientshow, so it was fair enough.
I was a bit scrappy early with some small errors on 1, 4, 10.
Once I got into the map I felt more comfortable and ran better. With 2 controls to go, I was head to head with Bryan, but I didn't have the speed to get in front of him.

Orienteering race 26:41 [5] ***** 4.15 km (6:26 / km) +106m 5:42 / km
spiked:37/40c

Orientshow
The most complex course imaginable, with 40 controls in complex granite in 3.6km
This was my best run of the day, although I did tire a little towards the end in the heat and short steep hills.
I managed to get all the controls in the right order. My worst mistake was 30 seconds time loss in the boulder clusters next to 33.
I finished about 30 seconds behind Bryan, but I believe that he missed one control.

Running intervals 24:01 [4] 5.71 km (4:13 / km) +1m 4:12 / km

6 x 3min, with 1 minute recovery
I was quite satisfied with my effort today, running around 950m for the first couple. I was getting tired by the last 2, and managed about 920m, but the recoveries were quite short.

Running 16:30 [2] 2.27 km (7:17 / km) +62m 6:24 / km

Running long 1:23:30 [2] 16.58 km (5:02 / km) +101m 4:53 / km

A long run on the Yarra at lunchtime on a magnificent day. I ran upstream from the tan all the way to Gipps St, then back via Victoria Pde and Fitzroy Gardens.
There appeared to be chaos on the Monash Fwy at Burnley, with 2 cars on the Westbound lanes pointing north! This resulted in several kms of "car park" behind it.

I just clocked up my first 1000kms for 2012 on today's run. I am slightly ahead of my target of 4000kms for the year.

Fawkner Park in reverse.
An easy recovery jog, while talking about the Melbourne Ironman from yesterday.
Congratulations to MMM member Emma Miller, who finished 3rd in W30-34 in 9:51 and earner herself a place at Kona!
Dozer jogged the marathon in a relay team in 2:47, while House unexpectedly struggled for 3:05 in his 16th marathon.

Running warm up/down 11:02 [2] 1.51 km (7:17 / km) +31m 6:37 / km

Running long 1:24:11 [4] 20.0 km (4:13 / km) +364m 3:52 / km

Long undulating tempo run on Yarra Boulevard, as well as some of the hillier streets in Kew.
The first 5kms felt pretty ordinary but I got better as the run went on.

At the end it felt nice to get through a challenging training week that included 10 hard sessions in the last 8 days. I've still got some hard sessions planned, but there will be a few more easy runs in between in the 2 weeks leading up to Easter.

Running warm up/down 6:09 [2] 0.97 km (6:21 / km) +5m 6:12 / km
