Note

Physio post operation appointment today.
He was happy with my progress so far.
Given that some of my bone/cartilage was "polished" during the arthoscopy, his suggestion was not to run for a couple of weeks yet for a better longer term outcome. Apparently the bone takes a little while to heal and the jarring of running is not great for it.
Meanwhile, focus on quads, calfs and core strength. I'm allowed to walk, cycle, swim, cross-trainer etc.
Gradual increases - no more than 20% increase per day will help to avoid any pain or swelling.

Cycling 37:40 [2] 9.65 km (15.4 kph) +39m

This Included an unscheduled detour around the streets of Fairfield near Anne's work in the morning to find where Anne had parked the car. Sophie was getting ready for school and realised that her shoes were missing. I figured that they were last worn to gymnastics on Tuesday afternoon and were probably still in the car. This assumption proved correct. Luckily the shoes were collected and Sophie had some school shoes for the day.

Note

It was fun to watch the NORT knockout sprint last night.
It doesn't seem like the men were expecting forking, as all of them headed towards the same first control of the split.
The women weren't much better. This is odd, as the split would have to have been obvious on their maps. It just shows that under pressure, they may not have been reading their maps - instead just following the leader.
There were a few decisive route choice decisions after the forking in the women's race.

I'll have to watch the video replay as well.

Walk 1:05:28 [1] 6.27 km (10:26 / km) +41m 10:06 / km

I joined Anne's morning walking group today. I've heard so much about it that I had to join in given that I cannot run yet and my parents were in town to stay home with the kids.
We started in the dark at 6am. Luckily my new running shoes were glowing to shine the way.
The workout is not something that I would get a lot out of normally, but it was perfect for my current recovery. My knee was good and I felt that I was able to walk normally at a brisk pace.

Cycling 25:17 [2] 6.59 km (15.6 kph) +1m

Back on my bike for my first ride post op. The ride, and my knee, went very smoothly. Although my knee was never really a problem when riding.
The main objective is to strengthen the muscles around my knee and maintain some aerobic fitness.

Lunch time walk through Fitzroy Gardens. My knee is feeling good when walking.

Orienteering 30:00 [0] 1.0 km (30:00 / km)

Father's Day Orienteering Course for the kids at their primary school.

It was too nice to be stuck indoors, so I ventured out with the kids.
I set a series of 4 courses, starting with a very basic one for Sophie, with each one getting more difficult. I used chalk for control sites. The only difficulty was marking the location for 2 of them in dirt.

Mason (10) set the course record for the "Red" course at 5m36s for 1km and 19 controls. I guess it helps when he spends 5 days a week on the map.

The challenge is out for any other kids (or big kids) to come along and beat his time.

If we got a few of these large scale sprint standard maps together, we could put on a fun series for school kids. Warren made a similar one of East Kew PS last year.

My next step is to approach the Primary School PE teacher and try to get some kids interested for the PS Champs.
