Midday Milers Peter Moore Handicap race
Olympic Park track

I felt good in the warm up, and springy with a new pair of lightweight shoes.
I was quite happy with the time, although I was running on my own for most of the race. It was a great turn up of about 50 MMM members.

Sonia O'Sullivan was invited out to watch us to see if anyone could break her 2000m world record.

When Collingwood took over the Olympic Park oval, they were supposed to keep it open to the public.
Eddie McGuire came out for the Collingwood offices. He was quite grumpy and asked us to keep off his grass. Then he saw that Sonia was with us and he changed his attitude completely. He was very friendly and asked if he could get us anything. He joined in for photos and had a chat with a few of us, making jokes about the Melbourne Demons.
It was very interesting how Eddie treats ordinary people compared to how he behaves around celebrities.

Borhoney Ghurk
2nd M21A

I was rather disappointed with the second half of my run.
I had a couple of minor compass errors in the last part of the course that probably cost me the win.
I was over confident after hitting the early mining controls well. Then I got confused by the vegetation mapping. Both mistakes were parallel errors with earthbanks and clearings, where the cleared areas on the ground were marked on the map as white. I need to take more care with my compass in these technical areas rather than just relying on reading the landforms.
