Note

I have finally found some time to do some data analysis on Blair Trewin's set of historical National Orienteering League results.
see: http://orienteering.asn.au/wp-content/uploads/2016...

Some early observations from the 1995 - 2016 data.
My first NOL race was Round 1 1995
Up until 2016, I have competed in 284 NOL races.
plus 8 in 2017,
and 3 already in 2018, making a total of 295

Subject to my race schedule, I should be on track to compete in NOL race #300 in Queensland in September.

Other notables (1993-2016):
Blair Trewin 297
Jim Russell 259
Eric Morris 241
Anna Sheldon 232
Rob Preston 212
Jenny Casanova 209
Simon Uppill 181

I really could not have done much more on this race, apart from perhaps run faster. I hit everything spot on. I made a small direction error on the last control, but I was chasing Konsta hard and the splits say that I lost no time.

Unfortunately there was a problem on course 2 with 2 SI units being placed in the wrong stands, which impacted the Senior Boys and a couple of others, before being fixed prior to the W21 class coming through.
I am not sure that adjusting times of the Senior Boys was the right thing to do. I have always been told in every event adviser course I have attended that, no matter how tempting it may be to adjust times, this is never the correct thing to do. As it impacted the majority of the Senior Boys class, I think that it should have been declared a "no race" for them.

A good clean run, but I didn't take the best route choices on 10 and 11.

I was smooth, but I missed some of the better route choices to 4, 12 and 17. But on the positive side, I did get 12 out of 15 route choice legs either shorter or approx even.

I was placed a little lower than I would have liked in this race, although I was still only 1:30 down on the winner. I needed a little more speed, and it has been a big 24 hours, with course setting in the morning for the relay (and setting up for it last night) probably taking a little out of my legs.
