not too sure of the heart rate details. my watch reset at the first hut - which was problematic for my pacing for the rest of the race, not knowing how ling I had been racing for.
Started off way too fast with the first bunch of 16 - kept with them for the first technical 5 km's to the first hut. then the trail headed uphill and i watched the front groups disappear into the trees. It was magic running along on the trail.
Stopped at 45mins to strap a hot spot on my right foot. seemed to work well, only a small blood blister, but I suspect the callous on the ball of my foot is hiding the real damage. I nursed the blisters to the end especially on the downhills.
I pushed the prologue a bit hard on the downhills and jarred my right knee so also had to nurse that on the downhills. Was frustrating not to be able to go as fast as I knew I could.
ran conservatively so that I would have something left for the last 9km which are apparently much more runnable.
my 1 previous marathon taught me that the last 10km are the hardest and I didnt want to break my body and have to walk the last section.
it worked and I caught the 2 the people that passed me at half way in the the last 9km.
ran hard to finish just under 5 1/2 hrs. really thrilled with that result.
