RMOF, Pelican Bay (east). Red course, 8.2 km straight line. I had chosen red because I wanted to win/be Western states champ. This of course put pressure on me - to have expectations. The warmup went fine, a little winded because of the elevation, but I figure it effects me less than others. Ham felt fine on the warmup and I was hopeful it was going to be a non-issue. Having expectations for results is never good and me HR at the start, just standing there having not done any running for a good 10min, was 130. After the common control, I couldn't get locked into the map and lost time wandering by the wrong rocks, biggest mistake on the day. I stumbled going to 3 which cause my ham to tighten right up, so I had to be about my speed, never tried to go top end for fear of causing real damage. The ham held together and I managed to run a good pace. 9 I over shot the ridge the control was on, not sure why, 12 I went to a cliff too high up even though I knew it was the wrong one, got off course leaving that one so I was forced to go over a big hill, didn't find the gap I was looking for going to 14. I wasn't expecting much with results as I didn't feel stellar either with speed or fine detail navigation (often just generally going the right direction...), but was pleasantly surprised by the results:
