L5D - Day 5 Dale Park - Mp

Wasn't a big fan of the long run to the maps but oh well. Fine through the first two then first stupid mistake to 3, about 45° off, Realised what I'd when I found the crag but probably lost 90s. Technically fine trough 4 & 5 but very hesitant to 5. Another stupid directional error to 6, 60° off this time. small miss on 7 and fine to 8. Good for the majority of 9 but once I'd met Charlie we both messed it up.

And then it all went wrong. Had been navigating to 11 to start with but taking the same route as I would to 10. Then seemed to be going right and "found 10". Went up the hill to 11 and that was perfect.
Bit of a dodgy route to 12 but couldn't find a way off the ride. Rest was fine.

Confused at what had happened to Charlie so just waited for him. He then came back told me I'd mispunched. Ah. At first didn't think it would make much of a difference but then realised it made everything different. Then the worst 3 hour wait for the results.


When the "final" results did ame out was very dissapointed that I was 2nd. Although once I'd found out the only difference coming first was a different bag it wasn't quite as bad. Then when they read out the results: "3rd, Joe Hudd. 2nd, Jim Bailey. 1st, Joseph Sunley..." Very confusing and just went with it. Wan't 100% sure I was first but, then when a bit later on that evening the final results came out and Jim had had his score dropped by 17 points.

L5D - Day 4 Askham Fell - 2nd + 1:05



Pretty happy with how my legs felt today. Managed to keep running for nearly the whole course.

1st control was easy enough then my first mistake was at 2: perfect for the majority of the leg and had a good attackpoint but then my direction into the control was poor and ended up losing about 30s.
Going pretty well then at 6 I saw someone in a WCOC top about 200m in front, very surprised to have caught Charlie up this early on. Slowly reeling him up until I properly caught him at 9, and then messed up 10. Seemed to be on the right line until I thought Charlie had found the path just after the control so went to him but turned out he hadn't and lost about 50s. Slight miss on 11 just 10m to the right.
Nothing interesting until 16 when I caught a glimpse of what I thought looked like a Finland top, didn't think I had been going well enough to catch Joe so was a bit sceptical but as I headed over te spur it became clear it was him. wow.
Lost almost 45s on the penultimate control which was very annoying: first being hesitant over which gap in the gorse to take, thought I'd took the right one but hadn't.

L5D - Day 3 Whinlatter - 1st



I'm happy with the result but can't say the same for my run. Wasn't able to get up to any speed and kept on making small mistakes that cost me time.

When I left the start wasn't sure if I'd picked up the right map because the first control looked like it was on a spur. Fine through the first two though and climbed out onto the track for 3. My original route to 3 involved going over the hill on another path because I hadn't seen the path round. First mistake to 4, didn't go round the hill enough and lost ~45s. Fine through 5 but then chose a poor route to 6, going to straight but trying to counter and go round on the second spur. 7, 8 & 9 were uneventful except for a tiny 10s miss on 9.
Absolute shocker to 10, had no idea what I was doing and paid the price for it. Generally poor direction and went too far and almost to the path. Rest of the course was fine except for not being able to push hard on the tracks.

L5D - Day 2 Angle Tarn Pikes - 2nd + 1:04



Not as scrappy today but think a mistake to 11 may have cost me a bit.

First control there was a bit of routechoice and wasn't sure whether to drop to the path or stay high but decided to stay high. Very slow to 2 and didn't know where the control was going to be. Confused when I got to the top of the hill at 4 as couldn't see the hill I was looking for.
6, stuck to the path for the first bit then just on an elephant track. Bit of a purposeful banana to 7.
Very hesitant in the circle to 8 and I didn't know where the control was meant to be.
Went straight to 10 but was probably better to stick on the path.
Biggest mistake to 11 just a bit low and lost about 30s from having to climb up the hill.
Didn't know what I was going to do for 13 but got lucky.

L5D - Day 1 Silver How - 1st



Felt good physically but could have been better technically.
Lost 30s on 6 just overshooting it. Then 60s on 7 and was too low. Another 30s on 9 being too far right and then 15s on 11 just didn't see it.

Looking at the splits all but 3 of my legs were top 3, so pretty happy with that.
