Orienteering race 21:30 [5] *** 2.9 km (7:25 / km) +90m 6:25 / km
spiked:12/13c shoes: Inov8 Orocs

SA Champs - Relay - Hawequas.
Unofficial team with Jess and Mike. I ran 2nd. Jess bought us back in 2nd behind RACO. I had a good run, nice and accurate and managed to find a bit of speed. Nic got passed me to #7 up the hill.
The back was bearable but I tweaked it towards the end as I went down the bank onto the road for the spectator control. Luckily didn't have far to go after that.
Not a lekker feeling when I stopped running - something definitely not right! Time to see the physio.

Orienteering race 1:39:47 [4] *** 7.8 km (12:48 / km) +340m 10:30 / km
spiked:19/21c (injured) shoes: Inov8 Orocs

SA Champs Long Distance.
A disappointing race for me. I was pretty excited when I turned over the map and was feeling good. Jumping into the ditch at #2 my lower back seized up and I had to sit for a bit before I hobbled to #3 and was seriously considering calling it a day when I spotted Michele and Zoe who started 3 and 6 min ahead of me. I punched #3 and my back was easing a bit so I continued. Struggled to find #15 (rocky pit) - lost about 2 min - worked off a control on some green rocky ground. Otherwise nav was smooth and apart from a few unpleasant moments with the back and stopping to stretch it a few times, I could maintain a pretty decent speed. I really enjoyed the planning and loved the area!!
Glad I stuck it out and cool to be 3rd even if I was miles behind.

Orienteering race 37:12 [5] *** 4.28 km (8:42 / km) +120m 7:38 / km
spiked:13/15c shoes: Inov8 Orocs

SA Champs Middle - Grabouw Eikenhof Dam
Had a pretty decent race. Lost about 30sec on #6 - I came around the south of the hill and the control was further around and higher than I expected. The whole area in the control circle didn't look how I expected. I had another problem with visualization in the circle on #8 (lost 50sec), I was also starting to get pretty tired so not thinking straight by then. Caught sight of Tania on the way to #11 so that spurred me on for the rest of the course.
So quite a clean race, but not moving fast. Barely felt my back which was great.
Ended up 2nd, behind Steph with Jess 3rd. Paul ran 29:55.

While I don't really enjoy the way the start times were done, it added some new pressures which were quite interesting - having Christie 2 minutes behind me definitely played on my mind.

Walked up to Fotheringham with my dad, then I picked up the pace passed Royal Oak, Sasol Wychwood and Bishop Bavin with a nice chilled km to finish off. Felt comfortable.
