For my last run in Tbilisi, a genuine first for my time here. A run during which it pissed it down for the duration - wow! Once I'd gotten over the shock I had some thoroughly enjoyable convo as ever with the lads and quite enjoyed the novelty of the whole experience. There were occasional drenchings from passing cars but we were already soaked, so it didn't matter too much.
Straight to dunkin' afterwards for a big nutella donut - yummy.

Back home from dunkin' - I was very cold so didn't hang around on this.
Feels so strange to be leaving Tbilisi for the foreseeable. It feels like I've been here for ages, and for no time at all. On the running front, it has been such an adventure, filled with cracking company, excellent language practice, kamikaze cars, dogs, stunning locations and some of the best views out there. I am really gonna miss Georgia and I have already promised that I will be back here sometime in the not so distant future. Running wise, there's still a lot to be explored so it's certainly good motivation to come back.
But even if running in Tbilisi has presented myriad challenges at points, it's also blessed with some fantastic trails and I've loved having the chance to play on them. Most importantly though, the folks I've met on the way have been absolute top hole as we might say!

Since I'm doing the usual long run tomorrow I took my chance today for a final hit up the ridge, this time heading all the way up to Udzo, which is a satisfying 1000m higher than my flat.
Lovely sunny day (although no further views) and it was just so nice to be running along a deserted ridge in the sunshine. Underestimated the ascent up from my usual highpoint to Udzo - it's pretty steep and the mix of mud/melting snow made it a slippy one at points.
Had a little faff drinking in the views at the top then headed promptly back down, perhaps a little too quickly. Soon reeled in the pace when I realised that Turkish airlines was preferable to a med evac as transport home, but enjoyed the descent all the same.
Trails were lovely as ever and was down at turtle lake in no time. Even topped off a fantastic run with a trip down the ropeway (imagine: cable car, no safety regulations, not updated since the 70s at a minimum) to Vake.
What a fantastic place Mtatsminda has been to run - great climbs, fun trails and views to die for. A shame I wasn't able to come here more often but hey ho. Marvellous.

Back from the spar next to the metro, armed with fresh bread and a kitkat chunky. For a chunky boy.

Went to pub quiz last night. Partially ruined a few evenings. Gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss. Миссия закончилась.

Trail sesh - 20x75(45)
Rounding off the sessions here with a staple from the Khudadov forest loop. Absolute brexit weather out today, nicely preparing me for coming back to Scotland next week - rainy, windy, cold etc. It was muddy underfoot but I managed some decent paces either way and pushed hard throughout.
I was nice and drenched by the end with mud everywhere - fantastic. No dogs or cows around to make things interesting but what you can do. Pleased to get the sesh done.

Narikala loop with a few specks of rain kicking about. It was nice to be doing this in the light - I do love this loop.

Over to the track and some rather long WU faffage waiting for the guys to be ready. Ah well - got some good chat on the way.

Running 34:18 intensity: (9 @0) + (20 @1) + (3:19 @2) + (9:41 @3) + (19:53 @4) + (56 @5) 8.94 km (3:50 / km)

Track sesh with Timur
4x1500(200), 4x300(200)
4:42, 4:42, 4:44, 4:42, 50, 50, 49, 47
Really good fun session to wrap things up at the stadium for the foreseeable. Timur may be a top bloke and an excellent runner, but he is not gonna be securing any pacing gigs any time soon and made the reps he led unintentionally more difficult with some rather speedy starts.
Kept the metronome on for my reps and nailed the pace on at 75s. Felt so much easier to run the same pace when Timur was in front - who'd a thought. On my lonesome for the 300s but manage to crank out some okay numbers. I was feeling self-conscious cos Jackland last week told me that I run like I'm sitting down and when I caught a glimpse of myself in apartment windows I could kinda see what he meant. Humbled.
Decent sesh. Vake stadium has been very good to me!

Group photo and then back home with Denys. Lots of hanging around but conversation was highly amusing.

And so begin the goodbyes. A lovely city run with the sun already up when we started - what a win! Excellent chat with Zhenya, although somewhat disrupted by a perfectly well-intentioned but utterly hopeless doggo who struggled with the concept of steady pacing.

Standard Didube loop - clipping along and loving the warmer temperature and lighter morning. The start of my last week here - argh! How??
