Orienteering 9:45 [3] 1.35 km (7:12 / km) +41m 6:15 / km

First 2 controls good, then a bit hesitant to 3, 4 fine but then I nightmare on 5. I'd misread the crags, so thought I was further than I was (a ridge too short). Going up and down this I couldn't find the flag, but then realised I needed to cross an indistinct marsh/stream. I then relocated off a wall and I saw the control was one or two hundred metres downhill from this, so I descended slowly so as not to miss it. Then finding myself at the bottom of the hill I looked at the map again and realised that there were two walls, the one I had seen was actually just below the control. After I'd climbed back up the hill again I was tired and not going to get a good result, but I still tried to orienteer well. But that I did not. Everything I seemed to do was wrong, my head wasn't in it and I struggled the whole rest of the way round with no flow and mistakes everywhere. It was too difficult for me today which is frustrating.
On reflection of routegadget and results, this race was a case of doing well for the first 4 controls and 9 minutes, then not recovering from the massive mistake I made, the difficulty of the terrain meant I couldn't regain confidence or flow and then I had let myself give up so I made some stupid routes due to complete lack of discipline. Some minor positives to take, and a reminder on tricky controls (5) to use everything on the map properly.
