day 1 in NC. Started great, first 8 controls close to perfect- than a huge bomb on 9, I was short 30 m, must be problem with scale adjustment, 7 min later I spotted the control from the same point, a little more confidence in my skills would have helped to minimize the damage, all my errors today were partially results of getting destructed by other competitors on my course. I need to fix it. Map drafting scale was 1:10000, printed at 1:15000, a big no-no by IOF mapping standards, all small rock features were unreadable on this print, I do not know how it went through sanctioning. tomorrow will be better.

It was one of the best training weekend in latest history for me, I am lucky to have couple of great athletes and friends to train with. One shell cherish such days.

Tested Z-man's training loop with Garmin and Polar GPS units: Polar was in 1 sec recording mode, Garmin was in smart recording mode, got very similar results: 14.81 km vs 14.84 km. Started easy on this cold day (~42-44F), after warm up we started to push the pace a little, and last 30 min it was O-race effort for me, and somewhat between easy and medium effort for Z-man. Great feeling after we finished that loop and I went for a short cool-down loop. GPS parsing is nice, I did not know I can do that.
