Orienteering race (Middle) 25:23 [5] **** 2.8 km (9:04 / km)

'Waihora'.
It was a chasing start based on yesterday's sprint so I had a 4mins handicap. The instructions before we started were pretty clear - 'controls 1-3 have been scrapped, so go to 4 first'. And I understood this.
But then when I picked up my map, for some reason I thought I was starting at 4 (which was close to the start) and so I headed off to 5 as my first control. Got there and figured it out, crap! So I thought I would DNF. But then I thought there was no harm in going back and getting it and having a 'fresh start' so I did that and the rest of the course went ok with no hiccups.
I don't know what I came but it was probably last. I lost 4mins due to my senseless f*ck up.
It was a very good area and I 'spose an early mistake meant I took more risks later on which is what I need to do.

Orienteering (Spectating) 1 [0]

Relay - still coughing my guts up and over making big mistakes, so decided to be a spectator for this race.

Orienteering race (Sprint) 12:17 [5] *** 2.5 km (4:55 / km)

'Spa Park'.
Well, I picked up the right descriptions, and ran to control 1 first, so it was looking good from the beginning. Clean run and tried to keep up the pace til the end. 4th place.
Happy with this result considering everything, and the fact that I haven't done any fast training this year.
Very impressed with Amber and Tanya, who ran the Middle, Relay, and then flew round the Sprint. These Kiwis are tough!

Orienteering race (Middle) 36:22 [4] **** 3.0 km (12:07 / km)

'Kaahu', New Zealand.
I was in shock on the way to the first control at how think the jungle was and the fact that I was expected to run through it. I took it slow and steady to the first 3 which was the plan, but then it fell apart a bit. I didn't plan the leg to 4 and went a bad way around a hill covered in horrible vegetation and prickles. 1 particular bush that didn't seem to be attached to the ground attacked me and pinned me down for a minute or two and I have the scars to prove it.
The rest of the course wasn't so good, generally scrappy and near the end I couldn't seem to read the map and I had to pretty much walk to read it.
So I wasn't too pleased with my run, but later I realised that the scrappy bits didn't matter, it was really the faffing around in the prickles that lost me 3mins and many places. Finished 8th.

Orienteering race (Sprint) 19:19 [5] *** 2.4 km (8:03 / km)

'Kaahu-iti'.
Runable forest this time. I spent a little while scratching my head at the first control when the codes didn't match. Decided I had to be in the right place and found that I had grabbed the wrong control descriptions.
Running pretty well up to control 9, then.... I got excruciating (to put it mildly) abdominal pain/cramps and pretty much ended it there. Was gonna DNF but it was a bushrangers race so I managed to crawl to the finish (although I don't think I got any points anyway).
Annoyed at this as I haven't had this problem since 02.
