Strength (waterskiing) 10:00 [4]

Waterskiing - HUZZAH! Hands still too cold + tired too type properly, but, was AMAZING. Only three laps around the bay - 2 regular, 1 one-ski - as core strength is down from last year and one-ski skiing is fairly strenuous. 15 C is not ideal water temp but I didn't mind, especially since I didn't even get my hair wet this time. Up on the first try, managed not to fall despite trouble dropping the right ski, and easy release + swim in to the shore to finish. Wish I could do more of this stuff during the year, but we don't have a boat in the states =/

Walking 2:30:00 [1] 5.04 mi (29:46 / mi)
shoes: New Balance

Long gentle walk to the other side of the island and back with my mother and my dad's second cousin Kajsa. Great view at the end, and half an hour spent lying on a warm rock at the top of a cliff overlooking the ocean.

Walking 15:00 [3] 1.3 mi (11:32 / mi)
shoes: New Balance

Long way home from the store again. No reason except because walking is nice =)

Walking (adventuring) 30:00 [1] 1.5 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: New Balance

Adventuring! Yay!

Took the long route home from the store on foot, cut off on a small side-trail, and came upon the island's cell phone tower. Took lots of photos of the tower, cables, huts clustered around it, etc. and tried to figure out how it worked. Followed the buried cables to where they came from by the road. Took photos. Realized it was getting stormy and maybe not a good idea to stand near a tall, metal tower if lightning struck. Ignored this idea and instead took photos of grounding mechanisms. Discovered a nearby area where there had been a small forest fire. Took LOTS of photos. Began to rain, so finally set off for home.

Walking 10:00 [1]

Time is completely made-up.

Walked out into the forest to take our guests' kids (two boys age 9 and 13) to the fort behind my great-uncle's house. It's basically an open roof of criss-crossing branches over a deep notch between two rocks. We decided to fill in the roof by adding twiggier branches and a covering of moss. Something I've always wanted to do. Good times.

This "training" consists of walking and hauling branches. Not much, but fun ^^

Biking 10:00 [2] 1.87 mi (5:21 / mi)

Biking to the store and back to get bread. The walk is only 3/4 mi round trip, but goes over a rocky path that isn't bike suitable, so I took the road the long way around.

It's a bumpy country road and a rusty country bike (two gears! woo!), so the amount of exertion required was way disproportionate to the distance. But I still feel very out-of-shape. Eh.

That said, there is something truly delightful about pedaling a rusty yellow bicycle along a rough country road past fields and forest and country houses and men driving tractors and kids playing soccer in their front yard, to pick up handmade bread rolls at 8 kr apiece from the tiny family-run bakery by the shore, toss them in the basket on the back of the bike and pedal home again with the sun on your face and the wind in your hair. Mmmm yes. Simple living. =)

Note

So, I haven't been logging it, but for the past week or so I've been doing exercises for the new PT my podiatrist sent me to. They take FOREVER, I swear! Yeargh! I know it's good for me, but it's supremely discouraging that it takes so much time out of my day, when this is the third time I've tried going to PT for my shins and nothing at all has come of it before.

Is this really going to work? Maybe, but it seems so hard to believe, and the exercises get to tedious. I know my motivation to keep up the exercises should be the to get rid of these shin splints once and for all, but nothing I have tried has worked so far and I've been to 5 different doctors/PTs/acupuncturists. The "light at the end of the tunnel" just doesn't shine so brightly when it's been forever and nothing has changed. Any advice to keep myself motivated? =/

Swimming 30:00 [1]

Swimming at Drew's party. Sharks + minnows, marco polo, generally a good time had by all =)

Walking 2:00:00 [2] 7.5 mi (16:00 / mi)
shoes: New Balance

Relay for life walking. Two actual shifts logged here, but I did some other walking in circles as well to chat with people that isn't included. Distance is a guess.

Saw my podiatrist last week and he said there's nothing more he can do with the insoles to help me so he's sending me to a PT. I don't really like this new development.

Shins are still unhappy so still not doing anything fast-paced-ish. I can stand to lose cardio fitness, whatever, it's worth it if these shins will heal as a result =/
