The weather was a bit breezy today so i headed down the coast for the 20 minute warmup and thought i would run the first 4 sets with a tail wind and the remaining 3 around the dock loop which is 1.3 miles.
It was a strange wind as when you were standing still there wasn't much at all, but trying to run into it was fucking ridiculous at pace!
So, the first 4 sets coming up the cycle path were all bang on pace and i felt great, you wouldn't have thought there any breeze, only down fall was i had to stop at the bend to cross the road as their was traffic, so i paused for little under 10 seconds but i ran fairly quicker up the hill so i didn't lose pace.
The last 3 sets were mostly into a good headwind which at one point i was losing 20 seconds per mile but putting more effort in. What i tried to do was put a bit more effort into the latter end of the effort to maintain pace but without fucking myself too much as the session isn't about that.
I was a couple of seconds a mile out on a couple of them but overall manged to hit pace throughout the session which i was happy with taking into account the wind. I think if it was a calm day i could have managed the session a fair bit more but due to the headwind the last rep in particular was pretty fucking brutal, i think the next one I'm going to head to Thirlmere and run out and back, that way I'm sure it will be more sheltered.
Good hard session that, and i was happy with the outcome as its always a little easier if you have company in a session like that too.
It must be easier if i was to run at a consistent pace of 5:15s for 7 miles would it? I hope so.... :-)
