Bike 1:00:00 [2]

Level 7 hills.

Note

Played golf today at George Wright. It was awesome. The weather was beautiful and the course was good and in good shape.

Even better, we walked and played in 4.5 hours. I like golf, but it is much better when walking.

I didn't play that well, but considering I had at least 10 strokes in penalties due to losing balls and was playing with rental clubs including one of those antique mini-metal drivers, I can't complain.

I also finished with more balls than I started with. I bought six new balls to begin and never opened them.

Note

My thought for today is inspired by DVOA. God bless it.

Mature organizations need good institutions to safeguard what is good and noble; to inculcate in the youth values and practices which allow the wisdom of the past to be cherished and used as the foundation for greater glory. Good people can make a difference, too, but should matter less as the organization matures.

DVOA has some good, well-meaning people. It doesn't have institutions and it killed the goose.

If it were a stock, I would not hold it. If it were a country... well perhaps Gibbon would have something to say.

Orienteering race 45:59 [3] *** 5.3 mi (8:41 / mi) +230m 7:39 / mi
shoes: Olways

NEOC Green Y, Day 2. Much better than yesterday. No significant problems.

Note

Being sick for this meet may have been a blessing in disguise. It provided a flimsy excuse to not run blue, which in turn reduced my amount of forest running. That was important, perhaps, in allowing me to finish the weekend without exacerbating my ankle problem. I tweaked it once on Sunday, but on balance, it was pretty decent. So, I think I can start running again. I still am going to lay off the orienteering for the most part for the rest of 2008. I am aiming for one DVOA event and maybe the Traverse.
