Orienteering 1:08:00 [4] 10.2 mi (6:40 / mi)

Sweet.

This was CSU Thursday training. This was an exhilarating outing. Basically, just run and orienteer. I guess a bit like ski-O. Maybe I would like that, if I could only ski.

I was pretty clean but I managed to misread the map and go from 10 to 14, thinking the "4" was a "1". It didn't affect the outing much. I also missed a road junction, which was apparently a glorified trail.

It got dark by the end, so I was very glad I had my headlamp.

I have to give mad props to CSU. In less than a week, I've done two of the most fun orienteering related things I've done in many months. Thanks CSU!

I was thinking about CSU and DVOA. I think (and this analogy may be limited to the context of US orienteering) that CSU is like a jam band and DVOA is kind of like the Rolling Stones. They both may make great music, but the jam band is going to be more chill whereas the Stones may have higher production values in the shows but may annoy you sometimes. But, if you want arena rock, they are the only game in town.

That said, it is nice to be chill sometimes.

Run 1:00:00 intensity: (48:00 @2) + (12:00 @3)
shoes: 9 2007 Saucony

A nice session. Rolling hills at first, and tempo at the end. Sweat a good deal.

Cross Training 30:00 [2]

Bike 30:00 [2]

Note

I watched a John Wayne movie during my biking portion. I think it was called (The) Searchers?

I thought John Wayne was supposed to be a good actor. I must confess to being largely unfamiliar with his oeuvre, but this offering was terrible. On balance it was up there with Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, or Star Wars Episodes 1 and 2. Although, in the Duke's defense, he was arguably the best actor there, but at the same time, eminently unlikable. I only persisted in watching this because the TV selection on those devices is largely deplorable. It would be good if TV did not exist.

"Fortunately, the season for deer flies is rather short, usually four to five weeks in June or July"--so I guess we picked a bad weekend?

Orienteering 1:49:00 [3] **** 11.1 km (9:49 / km) +300m 8:39 / km
shoes: Olways

Pawtuckaway CSU training. Got slaughtered by deer flies but perversely it may have helped my concentration, save on one leg when I inhaled one. If Tero really did swallow a bee, I feel very sorry for him.

Orienteered much better than normal.

Map Hike/Run 20:00 [2] **** 3.0 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: Olways

Picking up two night-O controls.

Was pretty much exhausted. Flies took a lot more flesh.
