walking 25:00 [1] 1.3 km (19:14 / km)
weight:57.6kg

yuck. still feeling like King-Hell Cr*p, but at least joints are seeming a bit better. Walked to trainstation to go downtown, & then to Suki's for my haircut. Gah. We'll get this show under control eventually. gentle walks w/ pup on tap for the afternoon, sunshine, homemade pizza for dinner (much less naughty than commercial sort, I promise, organic this N that, high in fibre, low in fat. hardly sounds fun, but it is!)

walking 20:00 [1]

went out for two little walks w/ G-dog, very pleasant, maybe 50 minutes total outside, not alot overall. But joints may be improving, and certainly felt overall better come the evening - was that latte from a certain coffee mega-giant this morning laden with some sort of toxin?!

Sunday Apr 29, 2007 #

walking 28:00 [1] 1.4 km (20:00 / km)
weight:57.4kg

feeling a bit better, two little walks in the sunshine w/ G-dog, over to park, and up to grocery. Feet not so bad, R hip gave me a crazy twinge after dinner at Keg w/ father-in-law, yow!!! almost feels like it is muscles around the joint not joint itself - may be reaction to opening joint altho did try to be very gradual. But, that joint is not in great shape no matter how you cut it so whatever.

Note
weight:57kg

slept better, rested today in effort to reduce pain in lower limbs. Weight at alltime low giving BMI of 19.7 - I feel I could tolerate lower BMI than other people cuz of my low muscle mass but I find this BMI disturbing, so gonna try to go back up to 59 to see if I feel better. Thai coconut milk curry, leftover pizza visit to DQ, and frozen pasta for Th in aid of this.

Friday Apr 27, 2007 #

walking 45:00 [1] 2.4 km (18:45 / km)

2 short walks w/ pup, & 1km downtown to hospital. Ate a bag of smarties to offset weight loss. Pizza for dinner afterwards which gave both me & Dennis the oddest nightmarish dreams & generally nasty sleep.

Thursday Apr 26, 2007 #

Note
slept:8.5 weight:57.4kg

did a modified cobra in bed a few times to start opening my hip up. Heavy rain, it will be fun to walk around today! sundried tomato & black-bean pesto from the hawaiian pacific fusion cookbook, & set up the bread maker to bash some fresh vegan pasta dough for me, which I will roll out at leisure this morning and let dry. YUM!

walking 40:00 [1] 2.0 km (20:00 / km)

0.9/1.1km - first around the block urban in the rain w/ a little detour down Poo Hill just for old times' sake, & second up to the corner store & back down the creek, some on the bike path, some on the forest path. G identified another squirrel stash of shelled peanuts in the lawn opposite the train stn, & brought home a (probably) sequoia cone to play with from the old homestead by the creek.
I got a headache, chills, & sore throat right after finishing the pasta this AM, so popped it in freezer for another day & rested. Still wiped. New plan is Thai order-in, that's a definite upside to being under the weather. Go w/ the flow...

Note
weight:57.6kg

feeling particularly dreary today - pains are bugging me rather than being successfully ignored, kind of dragged down by this on-going weird looseness in my lower joints of three-weeks-plus, feel like I walk like ol' fogey (yes, Toto, you do walk like an ol' fogey, it ain't just a feeling) & it all freakin' hurts every step, every joint, arggghhh. Plus, very aware of "initiation stiffness" and accompanying frankenstein walk ie Beyond Ol' Fogey style walk every time I sit for a while... I hate this Sh*t. So, iced foot, take a long hot shower to kill pain, chomp back a tylenol, and do some situps or sumthin. Then take the dog for a carefully chosen short but satisfying walk. Seriously elevate feet today. its a plan. Yeah! Mexican fiesta for dinner, always fun.

walking 47:00 [1] 2.3 km (20:26 / km)

1.0/1.0/0.3, about 90 minutes total time for pup outside. raining pretty good, two bumblebee encounters (she flips out, maybe she's already Encountered a bumblebee? - good for her CV system as she runs manically back and forth carefully avoiding it, after stalking it with great caution & seriousness). also whats up with her fascination w/ slugs & snails - she picks them up & carries them around...
noticed my gimpy "loose" walk actually has a large component of protecting R hip - gonna have to open that joint back up a bit as I realize I am leaning forward like an old lady with a cane as a result, gotta keep as straight as possible as long as possible...

walking 23:00 [1] 1.2 km (19:10 / km)
slept:7.5 weight:58kg

down the creekside bikepath in a steady rain & back up the Stairmaster - pretty brisk maybe half an hour outside since neither of us were really into stopping. Wore my S76 baseball cap so I felt pretty cool. Dinner will be a small salad w/ tahini dressing, vegan pumpkinseed-cilantro pesto & organic WW pasta, sliced oranges, & a stirfry of onions & snowpeas. Should be good. Vet's office is annoying - 4 days since we took her in for tests, and still nothing - chewed up somebody today on the phone to ensure they start tracing her sample etc and get back in the saddle - shoulda been next-day results. grrrr... what about G's kidneys, huh?

walking 20:00 [1] 1.0 km (20:00 / km)

2 more wee loops, feet still huritng some but ice is helping I think. 0.7km/0.3km; about 50 additional outside minutes for pup. She seems happy with it - even tho we are having to sequester her a bit more from her suitors....

Monday Apr 23, 2007 #

walking 21:00 [1] 1.2 km (17:30 / km)
slept:7.5 weight:58kg

did the morning walk as D re-injured his ankle a bit yesterday & we want to give it a window of rest. Very pleasant, cool, with sunlight slanting thru the light green spring foliage. Birds galore. rethinking how to program day - gotta get more stuff done in AM I think. About 50 minutes outside for G.

walking 40:00 [1] 2.0 km (20:00 / km)

three more dinky lil loops, trying to get her out more often.... 0.7/1.0/0.3km. Met Chevy who thinks she is divine, and Sophie who thinks she is a chew-toy - G adores them both. probably...100 additional minutes outside. Feet hurting pretty bad again, will elevate and maybe ice for a few days. Everything else is good.
vegan adobo-style tofu for dinner, OK, not great. Re-thinking menu-planning as well.

Note
slept:7.0 weight:58.2kg

kinda restless sleep last night, G-dog was restless too, I tihnk cuz we gave her flea-worm preventive pill, and she is just graduated to next dosage level, ie still small dog but getting bigger dose - next one I will crack and give her 3/4, as that will be more appropriate dose for her actual size.
Cranberry-walnut oatmeal pancakes w/ organic maple syrup for breakfast when the G-dog & the boy get home form the power walk....

walking 35:00 [1] 1.7 km (20:35 / km)

two small loops with pup, still hurting, but I can feel the reduction in activity is working its magic - tomorrow I'll feel better & be outa the flare. Nice day, spring is going full bore, the air smells like flowers, except to Dennis who snorts in the pollen & gets huge allergies...

Saturday Apr 21, 2007 #

Note
slept:10.5 weight:58.2kg

made up my sleep but feel alotta pain everywhere, creak, creak... where's my coffee? will hear from vet re pee test for puppy today.

walking 42:00 [1] 2.2 km (19:05 / km)

puppy & I waddled around the neighborhood, two really local loops, everybody pretty pooped-out, slightly overcast. No news from vet (lab) even tho I called. G still seems OK, though. Overall didnt do much still getting over the aftermath of fleeing the fire etc yesterday.

Friday Apr 20, 2007 #

Note

there was a (small) fire in our apt building and evacuation just after midnight - cold outside for an hour and a half with puppy. Could hear water rushing down elevator shafts from sprinklers (Yay, sprinklers!!) going nuts on 7th floor & smell a touch of stinky smoke so we booted it outa there. But downside is vators' wiring now has to be dried out - up & down 10 flights is frankly tough on me, and on pup's young joints. what to do over next few days to walk her 5 times a day? Glad D is home! Hope the people on the 7th floor had insurance!!

walking 40:00 [1] 2.0 km (20:00 / km)

walking in various parks in Delta, Crescent Beach, & neighborhood hoping vators will be fixed. Went to vet as well, out for dinner in CB. one vator running at 8:30pm, wow! Very tired, only 5 hr sleep, exhausted by day outside and last few days of effort.

Thursday Apr 19, 2007 #

slept:8.0 weight:57.8kg

cafe au lait & tylenol for breakfast, yum! off to look at the creek. Yesterday I saw two amazing things - a hummingbird fight in the courtyard (bzzzzz! bzzz! they say!) and the thinnest crescent moon along w/ Venus in the western sky.

walking 1:20:00 [1] 4.2 km (19:03 / km)

1.2km (50 min); 1.6km (45 min); 0.5 km (groceries); 0.7km (30 min); 0.2km (10 min.) total puppy time, 2.25hr. Kinda low, but she seems tired in the afternoon & having trouble controlling her peeing inside the house - she pee'd in her little bed, looking up at me so sadly! We're going to the vet tomorrow t see if her insides are wrong somehow. The morning was good tho, two nice walks up & down the ravine, and then over around Cortina & along the train tracks. I feel quite worried about her.

Note

pup's energy and appetite continue magnificent late into the evening - maybe she is OK?

Wednesday Apr 18, 2007 #

walking 30:00 [1] 1.6 km (18:45 / km)
slept:7.0 weight:57.6kg

last three walks me & the G-dog have been totally in the zone, doing crazy synchronized doggy-consciousness, walking thru the woods, so cool! 70 minutes outside for the morning walk down the creekside trails & back up the bikepath, met a few dogs & practiced being calm, did a bit of heel which Gypsy is starting to get. Feet are hurting still, will elevate & perhaps invite Mr. Tylenol along for the next walk.

walking 55:00 [1] 2.8 km (19:39 / km)

yikes, Mr. T came for a ride twice ! but we had nice walks in increasing sunshine, two small dog walks (1.4 km total) but w/ lots of interest - many dogs to visit, some pretty hi-scoring obedience (sit, come, stay, down, and leave it, & four of those with reliable hand signals, plus heel is starting to be a good game for her to track what I'm doing next), & about 20 minutes of just plain lounging while the Gypsy Fan Club lined up to maul her. 2.5 hr outside time today for doggy.
Plus I went downtown on the train, had coffee w/ a friend, ate two donuts, recycled an ink cartridge, filed taxes, & did some banking (1.4 km) Elevating feet helps, R knee is sorta loose & wonky, oh weell, must pay the piper....working a bit on hawaiian quilt, looks good. I am ravenously hungry!!!

slept:8.0 weight:58kg

First day for three walks. Let's see how we do. G-dog seems comatose. Me too. Half a cup of coffee to go. Yum!

walking 1:00:00 [1] 3.0 km (20:00 / km)

two puppy loops so far, first in the sturdy rain about 1.4 km & 45 minutes, up the creek & around the block. We were soaked and sleepy. Had my second cup of cafe au lait & Gypsy slept like usual. I have got all our reservations finalized for Cobb Mtn in Oct, Canmore Barebones around Labor Day, North Island in Aug., AND the Sagestomp in May, whooohooo! Second loop around noon, 1.6 km, went over to the street hockey enclosure & threw a ball 3 times for her (OK, it was a bust) but on the way back we met Sophie the Bedlington Terrier & they wrestled each other into panting exhaustion! Then I wondered if I could assemble a thai red curry base (tofu needs to be eaten) in ten minutes, and it turns out I can do it in 10 min & about 45 sec. served it over quinoa cuz bachelorettes can do crazy stuff like that...

walking 30:00 [1] 1.5 km (20:00 / km)

after plumeria baths did a quick jaunt (50 outside minutes) to scout spidermonkey nests around the base of Taylor Prk, & there was a good one. Also met Jack, her first and best boyfriend. Then Alf gave me a ride to puppy kindergarten (G is not allowed to this class cuz of her delicate but potentially disruptive "condition") to pick up the lesson plan. Final pee-walk of the evening at 9pm...overall I would say my feet are starting to hurt, not a good sign...but we'll see how tomorrow goes. Spent 3 hours outside with her, probably can reduce this by twenty minutes or so.

Monday Apr 16, 2007 #

Note
weight:58kg

D is off to Seattle for 4 days of training, so it is bachelorettes-gone-wild time !

walking 35:00 [1] 1.9 km (18:25 / km)

two loops, first in sturdy rain, only about 25 minutes, sort of up to the corner grocery & back along the bikepath. Pretty much soaking. Second around 4:30 as the rain breaks and streaks of blue sky fly in from the south, about 1.1 km up & thru Villa Jardin, down the bikepath again, & then along the entire parkway & back up. Tomorrow the real test begins to see if I have the stamina to do all three big walks several days in a row. I have some tricks up my sleeve to wear her out without wearing me out. I hope! 70 minutes outside for the O-dog, plus Dennis' morning walk before he left.

Sunday Apr 15, 2007 #

walking 40:00 [1] 2.0 km (20:00 / km)
weight:58.4kg

two loops, first one in the sun w/ D to test our doggy stake on the lawn up by the train station - it works nice, she doesn't seem to even notice it, and will be a good addition to our cabin lifestyle this summer to keep our little wanderer from marching off into the Rockies etc... that was 1+km, then in the afternoon we did another 50 minutes to add 0.9+km meandering down the creek thru the woods, then back up Stairmaster. Something has been fluffing up the woods - the track is all littered w/ leaves...95 minutes outside for pup, plus D's "hour of power" walk with her in the morning.

Saturday Apr 14, 2007 #

Note
slept:7.0 weight:57.8kg

iced my hip last night, very tired. Icing it this am, looking out at sunshine. Now today we will discuss whether I am allowed to go to Maple Ridge, arggghh!

walking 15:00 [1] 0.8 km (18:45 / km)

so Gypsy & I did get to go to the Maple Ridge Spring Ramble - D galloped around in the woods & twisted his ankle & had a heck of a good time, & me N the O-dog wandered about, made it about two thirds of the way to the lake - when the Boy Scout trail turned to unashamed mossy bushwhacking we turned back. Lotsa skunk cabbages. Lazed in the sun by the car & gave the O-chair its first workout of the season, had our lunches, met lotsa kids who have apparently joined the Gypsy Fan Club on the sly. Went to Alfie's for dinner after returing D's fancy new shoes - too narrow. Mine are nice tho. two hours outside for pup.

Friday Apr 13, 2007 #

walking 30:00 [1] 1.5 km (20:00 / km)
slept:7.5 weight:57.8kg

Cold & spitty rain so I was thinkin' a ahort-ish walk, but then it felt good so we kept going, a nice mix of woods, parkway, & street walking to keep the little doggy mind stimulated, along w/ a lil obedience... towhees & a woodpecker of some sort, just lotsa birds. pilaf (rice...almonds, onion, peas, red pepper, broccoli, some lentils...) & mango salad, plus a raita w/ tomato & cucumber.

walking 15:00 [1] 0.6 km (25:00 / km)

another feeble half hour outside (total 75 minutes actually fairly sturdy considering weather), pretty cold & rain & wind have showed up as promised. R hip has been hurting a bit over last few days & now is no exception. Oh well. Back inside, fire is on, Doggy is groggy, & I am getting into the third HP book, having finished the second in the series AND Attenborough's Living Planet, great as usual. Now back to the history & technology of trains...

Thursday Apr 12, 2007 #

walking 30:00 [1] 1.5 km (20:00 / km)
slept:8.0 weight:57.6kg

under blackening clouds we went down to the parkway & over to Taylor Park around its base (oddly no spidermonkeys - have they migrated north to breed?) & home exactly the way we came, sat by the gate & thought about things for total of 45 puppy minutes outside. Started raining a bit. Saw two russian mommies & a chinese grama (w/ appropriate small companions) on similar/identical route. Vietnamese noodles & hummous fr dinner... maybe lemon & sundried tomato in hummous? Am trying slightly different recipe in breadmaker to see if I can get pitas that are more tender for the hummous.

walking 30:00 [1] 1.5 km (20:00 / km)

still spitting a lil rain, out for 50 minutes to sniff & trot fairly briskly about - up thru the woods to the train station & then back down the other side of the block. Thinking about that article about Joshua Bell in the Washington Post all day - I remember two-three days ago I stopped on my way thru the formal gardens to watch "l'amour" - a lil Mr. House-finch sitting on the back of a park bench trying to persuade a Mrs. House-finch that he was great, with lil hops and tweets N stuff. I remember thinking how I "had other stuff to do" & then I thought "not more important than this, you don't. L'amour is the center of the universe". But it was a hard decision to slow down, and I'm GOO-oo-ood at slowing down to smell the roses & watch the birds - it must be hard and so sad for other people who commute & stuff....

Wednesday Apr 11, 2007 #

walking 55:00 [1] 2.8 km (19:39 / km)

really fun morning walk w/ the O-dog all thru the woods down the creek, & then across to the top of Stairmaster & back home, 1.4 km, 65 minutes outside.
Then staggered off 1.4 km total to Alfie's for tea & pie, but felt very groggy (allergies? eyes all gritty, no energy) so did a lie-down on his sofa before going off w/ him to get his crown done.
Afternoon walk was no distance for me, but G ran back & forth for a few over-stimulated km. w/ Kelly the miniature collie. Then we sat quietly for a while to rest & cool off, total 40 minutes...
Last night's cilantro-pumpkin seed pesto worked good - put in enuf olives & capers this time. Tonight it is a cornmeal-dumpling-topped thing like a shepherd's pie. Hope it works, it is new recipe for me...smells good.

walking 40:00 [1] 2.0 km (20:00 / km)

couldn't open the elastic-laced new shoes today cuz of crapless hands - felt sad in kitchen for a few minutes but then we put on my old shoes & went out into sunshine for nice walk around Cortina along the trainline, back by the elementary school, along the parkway & up the top of Stairmaster. Windy & smells like flowers everywhere, may have slight sunburn. Played w/ super-tough Yorkie named Cassie, met Dallas & Tiffie coming out of Mayfair. O-dog exhausted! Maybe I'll try new shoes w/ normal laces for a while. 70 minutes outside.

walking 30:00 [1] 1.5 km (20:00 / km)

corner grocery for bread, & a walk-around-the-block with Gypsy just before dinner...clouding over, cherries & star magnolias losing petals in drifts.

Monday Apr 9, 2007 #

Note
slept:8.5 weight:59.2kg

Gaaaa-a-ah! Called Canmore this afternoon to search for place to stay for Barebones - Highland Games has the places I wanted ALREADY sold out & Labor Day is still 5 months off! But I quickly called the (expensive-ish) cabins we stayed at last time & luckily they take O-dogs AND had a place for us. YAY!

walking 25:00 [1] 1.2 km (20:50 / km)

in my new Brooks walking shoes, w/ the O-dog, down the creek bikepath, along parkway & home. 50 minutes w/ some time sitting in sun talking to admirers & practicing for O-meets. Wildly varying weather, windy, went back in to put on two coats cuz freezing, came home sweaty & carrying half my stuff. Grumpy in the afternoon so did some peaceful taxes to recuperate.

walking 20:00 [1] 1.0 km (20:00 / km)

mirror-image loop over to bike trail & up around the corner grocery & back home - so windy & cold that it was hard to sniff much, but we did another half hour of outside...

Sunday Apr 8, 2007 #

Note
slept:8.0 weight:59.6kg

Misty morning. Easter bunny visited. Also, the G-dog apparently encountered her first Attack Slug in the woods - report is she was snoofin' about w' great intensity when suddenly was inspired to do rapid (extremely rapid) "Four-Point" Take-off, just like a lil yellow Harrier Jet, a move guaranteed to get a lil yellow dog quickly out of range of voracious Attack Slugs. Thank goodness.

walking 30:00 [1] 1.6 km (18:45 / km)

pup feeling a bit groggy so shorter walks, 0.7km/0.7km/0.2km is total 1.6 km, 90 minutes outside with girl.

Saturday Apr 7, 2007 #

walking 40:00 [1] 2.0 km (20:00 / km)
rhr:58 slept:8.0 weight:59.2kg

did two leisurely km w/ Ling & Keith up Lynn Creek in North Van - Dennis flew Gypsy around after their dog Oscar, who ran up & down doing about 15km... good time. G may be even more alluring than we thought, a bit early at 5.5 months, but the jury is still out - one expert witness says enthusiatically "Yeah! She's in heat! Here! I'll show ya what to do about that!" "Eyiieee! Whoo-ooey!" says Gypsy. However, he may do that to everyone. Luckily he is an ex-boy, & we were pretty frisky & coy...another month of that, though? urk... 85 minutes outside, plus morning boy-minutes.

Note

went for Persian food in North Van afterwards, & then D bought some Montrails, & I bought some Brooks Gypsy-Walking Shoes - amazing store to have those exact shoes in stock like that. But the guy totally knew what I was describing... Then Greek lamb & baklava w/ Alf back in Burnaby, yum.

Friday Apr 6, 2007 #

Note
rhr:58 slept:8.0 weight:59kg

quiet day today - more tofu (Thai, I think, w/ chili jam & cashews) & brazilian black bean soup for the weekend. Gardening as well since plants need to move back into the jungleroom for the summer.

walking 45:00 [1] 2.2 km (20:27 / km)

1.6km/0.6km - first girl loop today unusual up past Hydro building & then thru train stn to mail our parking ticket, lotsa bug harassment (& some mayhem too I think) by the Teensy Predator. Met two boxers & three pitbulls, it was a Tough-Dog outing. 55 minutes. Then out to corner grocery for an onion for the soup. Sunny, misty green in the forest. Gotta make some reservations, esp. for the Canmore thing in Sept. since their Highland games always collide with that long weekend.

walking 18:00 [1] 0.9 km (20:00 / km)

Hot Dog walks around the block...after huge gardening explosion rocks apartment. Plumeria baths, transplants galore, dividing, cuttings, watering, fertilizing, dirt everywhere. Yahooo! 40 minutes outside, so total girl minutes 95....

Thursday Apr 5, 2007 #

gonna boogie the oregano, the bay tree, & that brave lil gesneriad in the bedroom into new pots today (or tomorrow). Late lunch w/ dad-in-law scheduled. Puppy asleep on loveseat. When did she become a furniture dog ? Dinner? Dunno.

walking 30:00 [1] 1.4 km (21:26 / km)

0.2km/0.4km/0.4km/0.4km...total 1.4 km for first walk & assorted movements around neighborhood - just up & down block while waiting for grocery guy, mostly playing w/ Eightball, a pug with a Round Black Head (hence name I am betting) which wiped G-dog out cuz it is warm today - came in & plastered herself on the kitchen tiles to cool down. Off for lunch & bus-tickets up at Highgate, fun! I think some sort of mushroom beef stroganoff (how do I make that, hmmmm) for dinner, apple crumble, broccoli, tabouli? Think on recipe during tea.

walking 28:00 [1] 1.6 km (17:30 / km)

two more walks, down to parkway (did some sitting & gazing, good practice for O-meets) & back up; & out at dusk to play w/ a Pack of Attack Schnauzers (one of whom is doing well in his obedience class) on the street to the corner grocery. She dealt with this by rolling seductively around on her back in the middle of the pack like the tiny blonde bombshell she is. It worked good. 110 girl-minutes outside for puppy. (Boy-minutes about 50-70 per day)

Wednesday Apr 4, 2007 #

walking 28:00 [1] 1.3 km (21:32 / km)

first girl-N-dog walk was urban loop around the block with added out-pouching to include a bit of Cortina townhouses; misty rain, dog generally low-energy today after her big adventures. I feel pretty great, back is OK, R hip is OK, energy seems to be back...indonesian vegan curry with tofu & remnant of vegetables, plus a miso-based soup. Gonna work on apple crumble tomorrow.

walking 40:00 [1] 2.1 km (19:03 / km)

second walk 5:10pm, down the street to the parkway and then over to stairmaster & thru woods to return up the hill along the Byrne Creek bikepath. Total 85 minutes outside time. Some major discussion about "down". hmmmm... the bacon-flavored snax wil come out and then we shall see who has the strongest will (or best equipment.)
Note: bacony equipment wins over small-dog-head. "Down" accomplished multiple times.
Add on last pee-walk plus trip to corner grocery for 0.2km/0.6km...

Tuesday Apr 3, 2007 #

walking 40:00 [1] 2.0 km (20:00 / km)

walked along this little country road with daffodils & plum trees & pink salmonberries in blossom, & llamas, sheep & alpacas grazing in the fields. G encountered her first sunning garter snake earlier in Bellhouse Park, and was pretty flipped out about anything touching her hind feet, like a little tickly piece of grass or sumthin. "...ahh-YYAAaa-aahh! AH! Aaaahh!" and that's a quote. There were alotta lil snakes I got to admit.
Then we went to the ferry terminal and walked on the docks & had nasi goreng from the truck there before the ferry ride back (to puppy class!)

Monday Apr 2, 2007 #

Note

on Monday (I think, either that or on Sunday) we took it kinda easy & just spent time meandering aorund the village, eating a cafe lunch, & driving up the Island a bit to see what was there. Went to the beach by the ferry terminal...when it comes to rocks, logs, weird docks, etc, we have pretty much wiped out Gypsy's instinct of self-preservation - we say "you can do it!" and she goes for it. Brave little dog, & I have the photos of her & Dennis crossing crevices (OK, little crevices) on fallen logs to prove it.

walking 30:00 [1] 1.5 km (20:00 / km)

upon thinking about it, there was some distance covered in the meandering day, so I add it thusly. Plus should mention back got VERY cranky Saturday am as we got outa Dodge, but recovered completely over the vacation. Now at home it is cranky again. I believe application of scientific method would indicate excellent preliminary perhaps causative association of phenomena which must be tested by further repetitions & variation of factors to determine if we need to be on permanent vacation to keep my back happy...

Sunday Apr 1, 2007 #

walking 40:00 [1] 2.0 km (20:00 / km)

we went to Montague Harbor where there is a shell midden from aboriginal times that has become a white beach - the water shows turquoise, & it SEEMS tropical. Neat sandstone and shaley erosions all around the peninsula. Sunny but cold, so much fun ! Apparently parts of the Mainland got snow...but we were in the sun, and actually came home with slight sunburns!
