Note

feeling better today, raining & windy this morning. I am pretty excited about dinner at Wild Rice tonight. Maybe we are going to Abbotsford RV show later this AM.

walking 35:00 [1] 0.8 km (43:45 / km)

wandered around in the pouring rain at Bonsor for 40 minutes while D shopped for shirts at Metrotown, dog successfully drained, chased several rats and big mice; kinda creepy that the more urban area there has more rodents. Or maybe they are less preyed-on so they are more laid-back & thus more visible.

Note

rest day, did go get hair cut (no highlights and lowlights as booking was messed up, but hey, as I said to Mon, "this wedding isnt about MY hair, its about Meg's hair". Just as long as my hair is tidy) then dmsum, then rest of day in pajamas lounging & dozing, should work well for me to rebuild my strength.
Nice classic lowfat vegan O-food; tomato-corn soup, w/ the antipasto/pickled vegie heaped on nice crackers & toasted organic WW baguette.

walking 55:00 [1] 2.8 km (19:39 / km)

getting tired, gotta slow on the walking, but today was not it, nice day so we went to the park, but then the leash fell apart & we had to patiently backtrack to find the missing piece, so that pumped up the meters more than i wanted. But it was beutiful fall day! Did the evening walk as well, we saw a coyote calmly watching G - don't know if it wanted to eat her or kidnap her & intoduce her to the Ways of The Wild. Their body shapes are quite similar, altho color is different. I hissed at it & told it there was no way it was gonna eat my dog, but it didnt really care all that much, so it was a kinda mellow standoff for a while. Eventually it went away.
coconut milk seafood curry for dinner thickened w/ red lentils & besan, & spiced roasted acorn squash. Kinda O-food.

walking 43:00 [1] 2.2 km (19:33 / km)

down the top bit of stairmaster, over to the park via the parkway, around the park, past the school, & home between the daycares. Misty, cool, refreshing, no dogs to be seen, & worse, no grasshoppers to be massacred in the grasses - G-dog listened & listened & couldn't find even one!
But we had "mom-style" spaghetti sauce, broccoli w/ oyster sauce, & tiny champagne grapes, haha!
Afterwards I made up what we in Vancouver call "antipasto", a sweet/savoury mix of minced veg which is delicious on crackers or crostini. For friends, & for the trip next week...

Note

back to bistro menu. Starting to get excited about California road-trip.

walking 1:10:00 [1] 3.6 km (19:27 / km)

up at Highgate, then a meander around the lower creek area in the afternoon (met Wilbur, Cassie, Sophie, & Whistler, so it was a FUN day), & then part of evening walk as well, to check out new development signs.

Tuesday Sep 25, 2007 #

Note

owies further reduced altho decided to brace up R wrist for a day or so. Considered bistro menu (croques monsieurs, moules gratinees, beans & carrots in matchsticks) but suddenly decided to do a bouillabaisse, nice sparkly tomato base, & toss in salmon chunks scallops shrimp beans & zucchini at the last minute so the flavours are all fresh and bright. Yum. maybe some big garlicky croutons?
Off in the mist to walk the dog.

walking 33:00 [1] 1.7 km (19:25 / km)

down to the parkway on the east side & then along it to stairmaster, thru woods to the creek bikepath & back up to around Villa Jardin, about 40 minutes. got wise & chomped a tylenol first, felt great after first few cold-ish minutes. lotsa plant baths this afternoon wow the ylangylang went nuts and grew six feet of vine into the blinds so extracted that, basically blew apart the apt tidying...tomorrow it'll look better, heheheh. rosemary-orange zest dressing for the last beautiful summer tomato...

Monday Sep 24, 2007 #

walking 55:00 [1] 2.7 km (20:22 / km)

Granville Island in the morning to drink lattes & meander from beadshop to paper-Ya to the Kitchen Shop to buy pasta roller, ravioli form, & new salad spinner, I'm just about beside myself, I am gonna start w/ fazzolette di seta (pasta shaped like business cards) w/ a bolognese sauce!!!
walk to the park as usual but sat & watched the sky by the bike adventure park today. Gradually losing big ol' pains from over-exertions, last night I thought it really sucked, but you gotta pay the price for what you buy...

Sunday Sep 23, 2007 #

Note

did about 10 km of backroads up past Sechelt towards Mt. Richardson based on a line about 2 cm long in one of the tourist brochures - took about an hour to go 10 km...pretty bouncey roads (not quite decommissioned ;-), but so quiet, & sunny by the little lake we stopped at for lunch. Not quite pristine, a bit of beer-can-fire-ring action, but that's the back-country for ya...

Saturday Sep 22, 2007 #

Note

off to Sunshine coast for two days to stay at B&B w/ three irish wolfhounds in residence. Compare stature of shiba inu & wolfhound...hmmmm, G-dog is gonna love this! plus its her 11 mo birthday !
Feet a bit sore. duh.

walking 1:00:00 [1] 3.0 km (20:00 / km)

from the B&B down to the Gumboot for cookies, & the seashore for the sun & waves. And back again, slowly.
Plus a walk in Gibsons along the pretty waterfront after lunch.

Friday Sep 21, 2007 #

Note

try for the bank again today...also gonna make a mennonite-style platz ("Flat"? its a cake) w/ the elephant heart plums that came last night which are gooushy & need to be done away with. Also considering how to do a nod in the direction of cassoulet but without all the beans since D would pass out when he saw them... probably more like a rissotto w/ the various veg/meats embedded, a scatter of luscious soft white beans as the "nod", & cook it like a paella in the oven? and brown rice instead of white, hmm...

walking 1:05:00 [1] 3.2 km (20:19 / km)

urk, a bit too much but soo-o-oo worth it! bank trip went good as did celebratory stop at Chapters for a present for D, ooooh! total 2.4 km, decided to eat a tylenol & elevate afterwards, plus rest in car to Sunshine cost tomorrow will be good.
Note: that Platz thing is NOT O-food, it is... farmer food, fuel for farmers, & a way to get rid of eggs & milk & butter. Most of the time I have to pretend recipes like that dont exist. Yum. (Plums disturbing, they look like they are made out of venison, dont taste like it tho)
Then V. gentle 0.8km meander from park bench to park bench w/ pup.

walking 15:00 [1] 0.75 km (20:00 / km)

evening walk w/ G & D as well...

Thursday Sep 20, 2007 #

walking 55:00 [1] 2.8 km (19:39 / km)

yummy crisp & rainy overcast day, tried to go to Metrotown but train was down, so back home, 0.8 km...different route up the creek (heheheh) to goggle at new mews of townhouses not quite done, down thru park on other side of creek & home. G messed around in a brooklet, dug in a sandbar, didnt get quite so filthy as yesterday when she got up to her eyebrows in a mudflow, haha, what a cr*ppy parent I'd be! Off to Alfie's tonight for dinner.

Wednesday Sep 19, 2007 #

Note

wow, another great day w/ bright, cool sunshine. Both D & I noticed the cranberry harvest looks paler this year, more orangey pink, and it seems early to me - going for the white juice market? harvesting in desperation cuz of funky weather this year?
Last night we went vegetarian gourmet w/ cute veggie pizzas, a salad, a side of vegetable crudites, &... uh, some veg steamed w/ olive oil. (9 veggies in one meal.) Tonight I am going out w/ The Girls of Revenue Canada to eat italian, & am leaving coq au vin w/ two simply massive organic chicken legs for D to eat. Meat, just for a change.

walking 48:00 [1] 2.4 km (20:00 / km)

over to the park, then over to the creek & back to investigate the dirt piles where they are planting new trees over by Belvedere. Also a quick trip to the corner grocery to top up our fruit etc. Time for tea & Jurgen Goethe's Disc Drive, & folding laundry in the sun.

Yellow Dog Yoga 22:00 [1]

exploratory re-introduction, just trying all the movements, no holding or pushing it, no rep's, felt good, felt quiet.

Tuesday Sep 18, 2007 #

Note
weight:60.2kg

still sub-G.
thinking about becoming a bit more productive in my days now we are heading back into being at home on a more regular basis. Music, language, & history lessons as well as yoga, have all been on hold, & I rather miss them. Hopefully I can get back into it.

walking 30:00 [1] 1.6 km (18:45 / km)

over to the woods for a change of pace, up thru train station, & back around via Poo Hill, a trip down memory lane, even to the dodging like weasels thru the formal garden where dogs aren't allowed...

Monday Sep 17, 2007 #

walking 38:00 [1] 1.9 km (20:00 / km)

indian summer started today, bright & cool, cranberry harvests going on down in the valley. Walked over to the park and back around the blackberry route by the train tracks - wow ! this bicyclist guy whizzed past us just about breaking the sound barrier - kinda sonic boom thing, & then G & I are gasping for breath in the aftermath. Kinda how I imagine the MO triplets, just an impression of hi-tech goggles & no body-fat to speak of... also met a chocolate poodle named Butch. Butch is 13 weeks old & is the exact size of one of Gypsy's fluffy toys, and honestly G is NOT a Really Big Dog, she doesnt actually even come up to my knee so well her toys are not big either.
off on the train downtown for shoeshopping, more walking, transfusion, & dinner date, wheeee!

walking 40:00 [1] 2.1 km (19:03 / km)

as predicted more walking downtown, felt pretty good !

Sunday Sep 16, 2007 #

Note

raining and cool today, perfect day to go to the wedding show at the conference center downtown. D is gonna do the Terry Fox 10K at Burnaby Central Park, so he will be nice and cool.
I walked a really long way at the wedding show but can't be bothered to think of a way to realistically quantify it. feet hurt. it was big fun! my favorite was a clear table with all white filmy or totally clear dishes and linens lit from beneath, vey pretty. But the people would have that lit-from-below devil look, plus the food would be these alarming opaque lumpy outlines on the plates. Maybe you just look at the tables, you dont actually sit at them or eat at them...

walking 40:00 [1] 2.0 km (20:00 / km)

upon thought, a good solid foot-hurtin' day is worth at least 2 km...

Saturday Sep 15, 2007 #

Note

I am in a Group!!! wow !!

walking 32:00 [1] 1.7 km (18:49 / km)

after dimsum I staggered around the neighborhood w/ G-dog like a round tub of excellent chinese food on legs. Quite a while after that, we went to Crescent Beach to have a BBQ of mussels, salmon, corn on the cob, and grilled tomato & pepper pizza, yum. A bit like an east coast clambake but different. G-dog ran one million miles in the off-leash area, & waded & came back filthy & happy. I walked her after sunset over to the pier where people were fishing. I think summer is really over tho...

Friday Sep 14, 2007 #

walking 1:05:00 [1] 3.2 km (20:19 / km)

downtown on the train to bank, back to Metrotown to doctor, grocery, pharmacy, shoestore, library... as the asian mamas say, "Aieee-Yah!!"
Feet rather achey so G-dog & I went to the Rocks and sat there meeting dogs & greeting members of her fan-club in sunshine. Morning mist of autumn is back, suddenly smells like fall. Classic French onion soup w/ parmesan croutons, crostini topped w/ baked goat cheese & some kinda...um, roasted pepper thing I forgot the name of. Plus corn on the cob cuz the delivery guy had LOTS...Started Monkshood, book #3.

Thursday Sep 13, 2007 #

walking 30:00 [1] 1.5 km (20:00 / km)

to the park via a circuitous route to check out new picnic tables behind school. In other news, finished second Cadfael novel, now to figure out which one is next. They seem to be working on refurbishing the pool, maybe after the trip to SF in October I can go swimming again!! whooohooo, after about 6 months of wrangling who's gonna fix it... italian adventure begins tonight, caprese salad w/ good tomatoes, sweetened balsamic vinegar (sherry did it fine), bocconcini sliced, & chiffonade of basil, then spaghetti carbonara, which is basically bacon & eggs on spaghetti, yeehaaaa! Or a thin custard flavored w/ bacon, parmesan, & scallion, smeared onto spaghetti. However you like to think of it. Hopefully I can keep the egg from curdling. Not really O-food altho I am slimming it down some from the original.

Wednesday Sep 12, 2007 #

Note

dog-food expedition w/ dad-in-law after golf today, plant baths (plumeria regrew foliage & look good, coffee tree is OK, koa trees NEED BATHS, pomegranate looks like cr*p, bay tree is OK, some kinda bug disaster out on patio) make cornbread to go w/ chili tonight, look at nexus apps.... early dog walk to park. yeah...

walking 30:00 [1] 1.6 km (18:45 / km)

over to the park, back around the base of it (what a disaster, the country-lane thing is all chomped to bits by grinding machines, yuck, but it'll grow back in a season easily) & home along the parkway.

walking 20:00 [1] 1.1 km (18:11 / km)

evening dogwalk over to train station to meet D after his haircut - then down the creek. G ate more flying ants.

Tuesday Sep 11, 2007 #

walking 30:00 [1] 1.5 km (20:00 / km)

pensive day today.
over to park "as usual", G-dog behaving well, good heel, good sit at corners. last few blackberries in a shady corner that were slow to ripen. Gorgeous sunshine. Getting caught up on household. Sushi salad tonight, w/ grapes & oranges to follow.

walking 17:00 [1] 0.9 km (18:53 / km)

evening walk as well. Met Big Boy Dogs, killed many bugs (there is a flight of flying ants deluging the area including our bed, G-dog is doing her best to take them all out), & agonized over whether or not to poop in the face of all the mesmerizing distractions.

Monday Sep 10, 2007 #

Note
weight:60.6kg

hmmm, those two visits to two entirely different but scrumptious Interior-of-BC chinese buffets (Dennis was the only chinese client in both) have really paid off in a bit of weight gain. Perhaps I will get rid of some of that presently. but YUM!!! I ate three different colors of Jello! among other things...

walking 38:00 [1] 1.9 km (20:00 / km)

back from train station (so thrilled by cooking shows on the Food Network at the Holiday Inn Express that we are going for a week or two of classic french & italian numbers, hence visit to library for inspiration) and then over to park for usual adapt-dog-back-to-local-routine. Seems to be working pretty good so far. (sort of)
Hot today, like mid-summer again.

Sunday Sep 9, 2007 #

Note

Amazing!! we were almost home and on a whim we turned off to look at Jones Lake, a hydro-electric rec site I had fallen in love with from a grainy B&W photo in a canoeing book. Hideous road up, scared me pretty good plus I felt like my belly fat deposits were going to get bounced right off my body by the jouncing even tho we were taking it real slow. And since my belly fat deposits are not all that substantial, for them to be getting up such momentum, we were really rockin...BUT what an amazing lake, so quiet and w/ rugged peaks (down in WA state) at the south end. We are going back!

Friday Sep 7, 2007 #

walking 1:10:00 [1] 3.5 km (20:00 / km)

one of our best days for fun ! Mint-carrot sorbet and rosemary infused creme anglaise, a baked brie w/ dried cranberries & pecans inside as a surprise, yaddayadda. Storm Mountain Lodge on the way into the north end of Kootenay Nat'l Park - saw the Paint Pots (iron pigments brought up by springs, important trade good for first nations), Marble Canyon, two different ages of forest-fire regeneration, AND Johnston Canyon in Banff Nat'l Park. Lotsa walking and so worth it! And then a posh dinner after as well. fun!

Wednesday Sep 5, 2007 #

Note

canoeing at Johnson Lake above Banff townsite, a perfect day (kinda windy so D really had to work to get us back to the put-in site for our BBQ, but we made it). Beautiful.

Tuesday Sep 4, 2007 #

Note

another day of fun - scouted lakes (both Johnson and Two Jack look good, not too big, not too small, great scenery, grass for D to assemble the canoe, & picnic benches for BBQ...also saw an almost pristine -looking wilderness that had been a huge ol' coal-mining town (Bankhead?) about 100 years before. Several other lakes too, Minnewanka was too big, and the beautiful Cascade Ponds were too small but great to walk around. G & I watched for bears, but only saw some horse-back riders.

Saturday Sep 1, 2007 #

walking 1:15:00 [1] 4.0 km (18:45 / km)

meandering back and forth north of the Barrier Lake map w/ the G-dog.
