Meandered all over the place - library, groceries, pumpkin spice latte, bank, and then an aborted attempt to go to Richmond for dinner - halloween spirits mangled traffic so none of the required buses came for half an hour, so D got to go to McD's by himself instead of chinese. Then the skytrain escalator crashed while I was on it, and finally for #3 halloween transport failure the elevator was dead when I got home. A few fireworks visible, not as many as last year, & I experimented with the homemade pasta which we froze - it behaved quite well when I dumped it into fiercely boiling water. Right hip muscles got all quivery and whimpy after my long walk, don't want to work, which is odd new response on the part of a hip. arggghhh.

Lotsa walking along ferry terminals and in Victoria to get to Dallas Drive, beautiful sunny day! Saw about 15 to 20 sealions (probably) in Active Pass messing with fish, and four black feral rabbits. Does that mean that Halloween is soon? Dinner is Tsawassen at a covert Indian rstaurant. Yum. Not really O-food though. Only 1.5 glasses water.

Huge windstorm last night & this AM, crazy changeable weather. Went dog-walking with Keith, Dennis, and Oscar-the-Dog. It was fun. Then in the afternoon we went to Belcarra & Buntzen Lake in feeble afternoon sunlight & cold temperatures to look at canoeing sites for next summer, & D did some photography. Varied thrushes are out in force on the roadsides for some reason. Skedaddled home with early timechanged sunset to make enchilada casserole with yummy vegan chili & organic corn tortillas, and a side of squash reheated from last night, cherry tomatoes & raw snow peas for pretty beside. 1.5 glasses water, off to Victoria tomorrow AM early!

went for a walk around the neighborhood today & saw a black squirrel twice, one grey squirrel, and a towhee. Plus a ton of brand new graffiti. Came home, had tea, & then D & I made pasta by hand (well, I watched & commented, and D kneaded & rolled. I cut it into freaky strips) We looked at it & wondered if we were gonna be ordering pizza, but I threw three strips in a pot of salted boiling water & it s manna from heaven yumminess! Served it with a luscious creamy primavera sauce with slivered red peppers, basil, & fat snow peas, and lotsa parmesan, dunno if that is O-food or not, but it was delicious. Followed by an odd second course of baked hubbard squash, & an experimental "treacle tart" more peculiar hobbit food that I didn't like, phooey. Two glasses water. Updating orienteering logs for '06 season.

felt good today after swimming, yummy endorphins or whatever they are, had same problem with water coldness puffing and going up on tippytoes like a beluga meeting Hudsons Bay for the first time - turns out pool usta be at 84 degrees but got turned down to 78...we interviewed Dale in the garbage room and the truth came out - I might ask for a compromise at about 81 cuz I am a wimp. Music Ace Lesson 7 continues to whip my patootie, I freak when there are too many notes to ID, like a shark with too many fishies in the school... Hand is doing good. Two glasses water. O-food - puritan style hummous, no lemon, no pepper, no herbs, with WW pita crisps, soup with organic genmai miso, kamut noodles, & peas, and then a Thai-inspired tofu stir-fry enhanced w/ cashews, chili jam, basil, and... hmmm, maybe some red peppers or sumthin'... we might be vegan here, oops no, the soup base was fish, I think.

after the towels decided NOT to dry themselves, I gave them another chance and went for what is apparently termed by orienteers "a delicate saunter" around the neighborhood, of 0.75 km - saw/heard some super-sonic chickadees (I'm getting twitchy about that ID, should montains be this low!?), stepped in some dog poop which gave me sometihng interesting to do on the way back, and also noted 5 bushes of fuschia still going mad - three red, one white and one pink-purple. It's autumn, guys! O-food; leftover pot-roastNjuices, organic short-grain brown rice & wild rice mixed in, baked delicata squash, steamed organic broccoli w/ sesame, & assorted raw veggies/fruit - kiwi, cherry tomatoes, snow peas, green beans...Two glasses water, joints all vaguely annoying and too boring to think about. Left hand is partly numb, will have to start again on remedial exercises for pinky area. We all have our battles.

walked to the library today, had a pumpkin spice latte which made my life complete. only one glass water today. dang. I like autumnal weather, misty rain coming down. Left knee is starting to hurt normal. Dad-in-law coming for dinner tonight, yay, so festival O-food as follows, french pot-roast (mmmm smells yummy with that cheap red wine transmogrifying itself all over that 1.5 kilos of beef), baked organic potatoes, grean beans and slivered organic carrots with magical butter sauce, greek salad, roasted organic onions carmelized with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and blueberry tarts (last of Alfie's blueberries (not) saved for the winter, we are Blueberry Hogs) accompanied by small (frankly non-organic) halloween surprises. I begin.

Yoga and range of motion - who knew savasana was range of motion workout for knees and hips, ow! Good pranayama. Walked thru the garden again, weather is clouding over after the sunny morning, and gardener has roses partly put to bed, but there are still about half with lotsa orange rose-hips and pink single blossoms. Cranberries down south in Richmond mostly harvested altho I still see one field way off that is bright red with floating rafts of berries. O-food tonight will be out for Thai downtown, with 1.5 km stroll to get there and back. Two glasses water.

Resting is good. Walked out throught the garden to get air - it is being put to bed for the winter, but still a few roses out, and the maples are hot-pinky-orange. Left knee and right ankle are cranky. 2.5 glasses water.
O-food for tonight - burritos with whole-wheat monster tortillas & vegan chili containing organic pinto & black beans (among many other good things), sides of chopped tomato, scallion, yogurt, organic salsa, and shredded lo-fat mozza, with a fruit salad that may contain flame grapes, organic mango, kiwi, and a stray orange. I begin.

went to Rice lake and walked around - looked & looked for the Aircraft memorial but could not find it - obviously I could not orienteer my way out of a paper bag, but I always get back to the Jeep...sat in the sun by the lake and heard raven, lady mallard on the lake, assorted seagulls, a woodpecker of some sort (but was too lazy to turn head to actually look for it), lotsa bushtits/mountain chickadees (saw the latter) wheezing away in their supersonic way. Went back to Jeep and dozed in sun with last few pages of Huck Finn while D finished the course. two glasses water. Felt good while walking but that night Everything Hurt. Ow. rest tomorrow. Ow.

walked around Queen E conservatory a bunch of times, sunny, lotsa people inside and out. I think I saw a night-hawk or a poor-will glide right past me and back into the bushes there! (Couldn't recall whether or not there were wing patches, so I can't count it) Could not ID a single bird inside the conservatory as per their bizarre key - not even the ones I already knew! Brides and red roses posing madly. Finished lesson 6 of Music Ace, hmmm I think I'll repeat that one... Two glasses water.

left knee still more cranky than the rest, but overall doing better joint-wise. Tired after swimming though - the pool is still freakin cold - asked Dale "is the pool cooler than usual?" and he says "It's at 78 degrees." Which actually isn't an answer to that question - I wonder how cunning he is... I think he is pretty cunning. Last week a guy was gonna go swimming and he put his foot in, and then decided he'd just come in the hot-tub with me instead - that day I could only go in for 7 minutes, and couldn't bear to put my head in, so maybe I'm getting tougher. Axis pants repaired, kinda. Three glasses of water.

took it easy since joints were all hurting yesterday - just a little walk (why do the construction guys leave their underpants in the road over by the construction site?) and then some yoga/pranayama, and range of motion stuff. Left knee HURT today, then suddenly stopped. Working on the gigantic rip in DragonFly's slinky Axis pants for the thing at Rice Lake this weekend. Three glasses water.
