Orienteering race 1:37:14 [3] 5.5 km (17:41 / km)

What a gorgeous day. I loved the set-up for the relay, great for spectating. The Jr Jr relay was so exciting... but I'm biased, of course.

Probably spent too much time spectating, because after the rest of my team completed their runs solidly, I blew my run by taking a looong time and mispunching. What happened? Part-way between 2 and 3 (a 200 meter leg), I thought I was actually going 3 to 4 (a 100 meter leg). This switch-a-roo probably happened as I fiddled with my map looking for the control descriptions. After traveling for 100 meters, the vegetation got thicker. I was in the light green between 2 and 3, but thought I was entering the dark green just beyond 4. I thought I should be near the control, but couldn't find any of the catching features I was looking for. Nothing made sense. After about a half hour (!), I eventually relocated and punched 4. I didn't realize I missed 3 until I downloaded, saw the missed control, and reviewed the map to reconstuct what happened.

Orienteering race 36:28 [3] *** 2.2 km (16:36 / km)

Sprint A, Course 3. - Warm and humid. Wasn't used to the map scale, blew into the woods and was lost before I knew it. Spent at 10-11 minutes relocating. Got back on track until I got a stick in the eye and popped out a contact lens. Spent some time putting a spare one in, and then wasted another few minutes getting on track after that fiasco. Still.. I had fun.

Orienteering race 19:28 [3] 2.26 km (8:36 / km)

Sprint B, Course 3. Much better second time around. Stayed in contact and finished the course without major blunders. Yay!
