Running (Street & Trail) 12:28 [4] 1.88 mi (6:38 / mi)
slept:6.0

From Rosedale Ave., Maryland/Pearl Ave. to the Georgetown Branch Trail, to Kentbury Rd. to Rosedale Ave. I felt like I ran well as this was a bit hilly. I didn't have much time for more. Weight 171.

Running (Street & Trail) 27:41 [3] 3.77 mi (7:21 / mi)
slept:5.0

From Rosedale Ave., Maryland Ave. to Jones Bridge Rd. to Wisconsin Ave. to W. Cedar Lane to Georgetown Pike to the NIH Trail to Jones Bridge Rd. to Maryland Ave. to Rosedale Ave. I felt a bit more sore than yesterday and just went steady. Weight 170.5. I'm resorting to the cookie and milk diet again. Milk is an important part. I feel that my metabolism is getting just inefficient enough to where once I stop the cookies, my weight will drop like a rock.

Running (Street & Trail) 23:32 [3] 3.6 mi (6:32 / mi)

From Rosedale Ave. to Battery Lane to Glenbrook Rd. to Mooreland Rd. to Woodmont Ave. to the Georgetown Branch Trail to Kentbury Rd. to Rosedale Ave. I felt slow. Weight 171.

Running (Street & Trail) 44:12 [2] 4.58 mi (9:39 / mi)
slept:8.0 weight:169lbs

From Rosedale Ave. to the Georgetown Branch Trail to Connecticut Ave. to the Rock Creek Trail to Cedar Lane to Wisconsin Ave. to Maryland Ave. to Rosedale Ave. My old college roommate Ralph Keith was here to visit so we went out for an easy run. He's had knee problems ever since being in a bike/car wreck (guess which one he was on) and this was my first run after mostly recovering from being sick. We took it very easy.

Orienteering (Course Setting) 2:15:00 [2]
slept:7.25 (sick)

In Greeenbelt Park, MD. Putting streamers on control locations for the Greenbelt Motala that will be held January 9 (e-punching via Valerie's graciousness). I felt awful and probably shouldn't have been there but had to meet with Stephen White, the meet director. I walked to controls on the west side of the park but even that was a struggle. The chills I had and shivering I did the night before had made me very sore. My head hurt too which is rare since I almost never get headaches.

QOC at Chopowamsic; on the Quantico Marine base in Virginia. Not having run much this week, I was glad to get a chance to relax out in the nice woods. Though the map was 20 years old, it was still pretty good (there were some logged areas and new roads). The woods were mostly wide open. I did fine through #5. I bombed on simple #6, recovered, but got sloppier again nearing the end trying to run harder. See the Split List.

Running (Street & Trail) 12:47 [4] 1.99 mi (6:25 / mi)
slept:4.0

After my flight and taxi ride home to Bethesda, MD, I wasn't very hungry. At 11:30pm, 60F and in between the rains I got in a run following the bigger loop of the hilly 5K route backwards.

Weights (General) 2:00 [3]
slept:6.0

After yesterday and with it being warmish out, mentally I was looking forward to running hard today. However working into the wee hours in Overland Park, KC, I only managed to return to my hotel and do 4 pushups (before my previously injured right shoulder hurt too much) and 45 situps. It was probably just as well so that my ankle rested some.

Orienteering (Competition) 2:01:50 [4] 11.0 km (11:05 / km)
slept:6.5

Possum Trott VIII at Camp Naish, KS, west of Kansas City, MO. I made a bad error at control #3, probably running too fast for reading properly. This broke my contact and probably contributed to my making more errors than others. I didn't feel that I orienteered to my potential for this terrain but enjoyed the day and a chance to run it. I skipped controls 18 and 19 in accordance with race rules but these were probably not the best skips. I made other errors and further injured my right ankle near the end--see the Split List.

Orienteering (Competition) 35:31 [4] 4.5 km (7:54 / km)
spiked:12/15c slept:6.0

Kansas Champs at the Tall Oaks Conference Center, KS west of Kansas City, MO. I enjoyed the format of a mass start with multiple loops run in different orders. I felt good on the warm day but unfortunately I was a bit sloppy. I 180'd out of the first control, bobbled my #8 (control after the long leg) and bobbled the park-o control behind the fence marked as a man-made feature in the clue description. See the Split List.

Wednesday Dec 1, 2004 #

Running (Street & Trail) 57:26 [3] 7.88 mi (7:17 / mi)
slept:5.0

From Rosedale Ave., Battery La. to the trolley trail, to Glenbrook Rd. to Kennedy Rd. to the Capital Crescent Trail, to the Little Falls Trail near Sangemore Rd. to Massachusetts Ave. and the Capital Crescent Trail, to Bethesda and through the tunnel to Pearl St. /Maryland Ave., to Rosedale Ave. Getting home at a reasonable and earlier hour I encouraged myself out to a breezy night and a nice run. Glenbrook makes for good running. I didn't feel strong starting, felt fine on hills and didn't push it. There were lots of cyclists on the trail. Weight 171.5.
