Running (Street & Trail) 52:00 [3] 6.95 mi (7:29 / mi)

Starting near N 93rd St., once around Wayndotte County Lake, KS, on the paved road. I had a little time after finishing work to explore this park on the way to the airport. I was lucky there was enough light. There were deer, geese and other animals about. At the dam was a cool overlook of the mighty Missouri River valley. I imagine that there must be an O' map of the park since the layout seemed similar to SMP in some ways. I paid for the views with longish and sometimes steep hills. There were some mile markers that showed I was pacing anywhere from sub 7:00's to just over 8:00/mile depending upon whether I was going up or downhill. I started slow only roughly knowing how far it was but finished strong. Mileage is estimated along w/the time since I had to restart my watch and missed some.

Running (Street & Trail) 16:43 [3] 2.2 mi (7:36 / mi)

In Overland Park, KS. From 110th & Metcalf Rd. to Lamar St., to the bike trail and back. Had to loosen-up from yesterday and run-off a heavy dinner. It was late and I kept surprising the little rabbits.

Running (Street & Trail) 9:00 [2] 1.2 km (7:30 / km)

In SMP, KS. Warm-up on the road with Mike and Gene for OK's night-o.

Orienteering (Night -O Training) 52:47 [4] 6.47 km (8:09 / km)
spiked:3/7c

In Shawnee Mission Park (SMP), KS. Mary Jones set out controls and gave us pre-marked maps for a fun training night. Mean Gene lead-off, I took off a few minutes later, followed by Spike. Spike caught me by the 4th control. We passed each other while I was doing some back tracking to #4 and he was headed to #5. I caught Gene at #5. I ran and felt well but my navigation was not sharp nor were my route choices. The big open fields made for quick times even when I ran circles looking for the right solo tree. Splits: 4:27, 4:40 (0:45 for change in route), 6:46 (+1:00 for change in route), 6:37 (+1:45 error), 10:05 (+0:45 error) 9:51 (+1:00 error), 8:16 (+1:15 error), 2:02.

Running (Street & Trail) 1:04:07 [2] 10.2 km (6:17 / km)

In Shawnee Mission Park (SMP), KS. Mike Eglinski offered to lead me around on this delightful run. He said he'd be out at night anyway running about but I'm grateful to have had training company while on a road trip for work. We ran easy in the dark with lights on the roads, the paved and unpaved trails. This will help orient me for tommorow's night-o training. The open hillsides looked inviting to race on though I'm told the woods can be thick. The ground was damp from light drizzle earlier and it was also thawing-out from last week's cold. We picked-up some mud on the northern trails. We'd just missed running with Dan Menahan who finished about when we did.

Running (Street & Trail) 19:18 [3] 2.65 mi (7:17 / mi)

In Overland Park, KS; From Walmer St. & 103 St. up the bike trail along the creek to where it crosses under, then starts to leave Conser St. I could feel yesterday's run and the cummulative effect of last week's increase in mileage on this planned easy day. It had been some years since I last ran this trail and I was eagar to go farther than I should.

Running (Street & Trail) 1:16:37 [3] 9.5 mi (8:04 / mi)

In Rock Creek Park, D.C; PGRC Long Run. Starting from Picnic 6 Parking, up the trail along Military Rd. to the Visitor Center; along the Western Ridge Trail to Blagden Rd.; down the Rock Creek Trail past the Zoo to the off ramp to Connecticutt Ave.; turn around back to Blagden Rd. and Beach Dr., Beach Dr. back to Picnic 6 Parking. Ran very slowly the first 35 minutes with Bob Grumbine and John White to make sure they wouldn't get lost, then I left them and picked it up. On the return on Beach Dr., I had been passing people but was feeling the increase in mileage in my legs and probably going slowly. I heard footsteps and picked it up to 7:00/mile pace to keep from getting passed all the way to the finish. I felt better in the process.
