Running (Warm-up) 1:30 [3] 0.2 km (7:30 / km)

At Hammond Rocks, PA. for the SVO A-Meet. The bus waited in the parking lot forever. I rushed a warm-up from the bus to the start to make it with 1 minute to go.

Orienteering (Competition) 32:16 [4] 4.6 km (7:01 / km) +110m 6:16 / km
spiked:13/13c

SVO A-Meet at Hammonds Rocks in PA (near Carlisle). A nice run mostly down a ridge. This was the fastest per kilometer that I think I've finished a race. Even with a 1 minute mental error on #7 where I went to the bag and thought it was the wrong number, I managed to have the 2nd fastest time for the day and fastest for M40+. With this not being typical terrain for me, I was very pleased. See the Split List.

Running (Warm-down) 4:00 [1] 0.2 km (20:00 / km)

At Hammond Rocks, PA. for the SVO A-Meet. Jogged back to the start while Peggy walked.

Running (Street & Trail) 31:41 [3] 4.66 mi (6:48 / mi)

From Quill Point Dr. the WB&A Trail loop via Highbridge Rd., then Hillmeade Rd. I've had the blah's this week. Yesterday I meant to go 8 but watched the tube instead. I was still reluctant to get started today but felt okay. A steady rain kept my feet heavy. Halves on the trail: 3:24, 3:26.

Running (Trail) 49:42 [3] 7.1 mi (7:00 / mi)

From the WB&A Trail parking at Race Track Rd. in Bowie, follow the railroad grade road to Fran Uhler Park, then follow the Refuge Trail Road past the NW end of the o' map to Rte. 197 and back. It's great that I can now stay almost 2 hours late at work, go home feed my cats then drive out to run in the woods. It was cool and windy and I wanted some protected soft ground. The park was perfect for a run and I felt good and stronger. The wavy ups and downs along w/RR ties, etc made for good specificity training. The trails were mostly dry and the tannaned water features would have been neat for orienteering in that they stood out so well from the very young and low new green growth. Along the way I got up to 4 ft. away from a big heron (who was probably sleeping), surprised some deer and surprised an owl. I got back just as it was turning dark.

Weights (General) 4:00 [3]

30 pushups and 45 situps at a slight incline on the grass.

Running (Track) 58:00 [5] 10.74 km (5:24 / km)

At the UMD Track. 3370m warm-up. 10x400m with 90 seconds rest. 3370m warm-down. It was cooler but just as windy as last week. Not looking forward to doing the workout, it turned-out okay (even though this once was my distance race pace). Splits: 76, 73, 74, 76, 76, 76, 76, 75, 77, 76. Yesterday I worked late, got hungry, then tired and bagged-out.

Weights (General) 4:00 [3]

30 situps, 45 pushups.

Running (Trail) 1:10:19 [3] 8.8 mi (7:59 / mi)

In Great Falls, VA. From the parking lot off Rte. 193, west on the Rails to River Trail (along Difficult Run and Colvin Mill Run) to Hunter Mill Rd. at the border to Lake Fairfax Park. It was a nice sunny day with new spring leaves just coming out. It being spring, the water was up. Rather than take the immediate dive to cross the fast moving +1 ft. deep waters, Peggy and I made our way up stream first on a new, slow, unmaintained and sticker-bush ladden alternative trail to a better crossing. The cold water felt much better coming back. After the first crossing on the way out, Peggy and I ran our own pace which was best since both our soaked shoes felt very heavy on the often muddy braided trail. 'Officially' 36:43, the watch didn't count stops at the stickers going out, but did on the 33:36 return. Coming back I felt good. I found new energy and bounded along quickly (passed a mountain biker), effortlessly like days long ago.
