Running (Street & Trail) 6:00 [2] 0.75 mi (8:00 / mi)

Warm-up for the QOC meet at Lake Accotink Park, VA.

Orienteering (Competition) 1:22:07 [3] 6.0 km (13:41 / km)

QOC's meet at Lake Accotink. I ran the Long Line-O course, starting behind Peggy and Dann Quinn with Dave Onkst 4 minutes behind me. Right off the start as I ran quickly up the steep paved trail 100m into the route I missed a control at the dam. I was on mostly target the rest of the way. In a few places where I realized I'd gotten off or was unsure, I ran back to the last known spot to make sure I stayed on the line. Sid's tricky lack of controls at the far but numerous controls near in end raised a lot of doubt and slowed me. The maps were hand drawn and mine had not been clear in two places. While on the main RR grade trail, the line was drawn mostly off it to the left and far down below. I went down on two occaisions just for this reasoon, losing time and in one place, another control which was at a major trail intersection. Coming back to the finish, I punched the control I missed on the way out. It was a fun exercise but not so good for competition when hand drawn. I often sprinted when on trails and once coming down a straight section I turned my left ankle giving it a moderate sprain.

Orienteering (Course Setting) 1:52:35 [2] 7.75 km (14:32 / km)

In the Fran Uhler Natural Area. Preparing for the QOC meet in December by checking possible control sites. It had rained 1" yesterday but parts were very runnable. Other parts, even some of the roads, were flooded--there was no way to stay dry. The winds have already knocked down some leaves making it easier to run and navigate. The couple of days off helped prepare for selling our house.

Running (Trail) 1:13:50 [3] 8.55 mi (8:38 / mi)

From the Washington, D.C./Maryland Border at Rock Creek Park, the Western Ridge Trail (mostly) to Blagden Rd., the Theodore Roosevelt Trail to the Valley Trail, back the the DC/MD border. There was lots of up and down and a few downed trees on this route but it was a nice day. I took some time off the last two days to do house selling/buying things and to rest my knees which are still somewhat sore from Stumble and Highlander adventures.
