Running (Street & Trail) 45:30 [3] 10.0 km (4:33 / km)
slept:7.0

St. Petersburg, RU. From Malaya Morskaya Ul. down Dvortsovaya nab. to Uloyrw Most back along the north side of the river to Butevoy Most to Dvortsovyy Most to Malaya Morskaya Ul. I ran w/o Peggy so I went faster. An overnight snow had mostly been shoveled away by hand using wooden shovels and brooms. The snow often causing backslip when pushing off. On the run I ran past the Cruiser Aurora which had fired the shot to signal the start of the revolution and the storming of the Winter Palace in the 1917. It's guns later defended Lenningrad during the 900 day seige; 1941 to 1944. It's now a museum. I also ran past the Cabin of Peter the Great. I also saw another runner. Afterward Peggy and I saw the Zoological Museum.

Running (Street & Trail) 50:29 [2] 5.0 mi (10:06 / mi)
slept:7.0

St. Petersburg, RU. After a night train ride from Petrazavodsk in which I was in and out of sleep, I slept much of the day in our hotel. Peggy and I finally went for a run around 3:50pm. It was the warmest day yet. Temperatures were said to be only -8 C. From Malay Magorskay Ul., we went around the Admiraltyy past The Bronze Horseman statue, across the Neva River to Peter and Paul Fortress, back across the Neva through the Field of Mars garden, across the Winter Palace Square, past the ornately carved ice palace, and back to Magrskaya Ul. Along the way we saw a bear on a leash and 5 different Russian brides with their parties. It was a nice run.

Calisthenics (General) 2:00 [3]

30 pushups in the hotel room. My back is tight low. My neck is getting better.

Running (Street & Trail) 47:44 [2] 4.5 mi (10:36 / mi)
slept:6.5

Petrazavodsk, RU. The main purpose of our visit was to particpate in a court hearing for Max's adoption. Stepping through the protocols of a foreign court was a bit nerve wracking. Peggy and I confirmed our petition for adoption, then answered questions from the judge and prosecutor. Except for one error in the paperwork, it went fairly smoothly and we were awarded parental status. We won't take custody unitl our next trip in about two weeks. We were told thatt WE (and others) have 10 days to appeal. We had a celebratory lunch with our interpreter, the social worker and orphanage director. Afterward Peggy and I went for a run (at her pace on packed snow and ice) from the hotel, down Marksa St. to the lake, along the water for a way, then along Pyenatsenya Ul, back along Punacharskovaya Dom. to Marksa Sst to the Severnay Hotel. The temperature was probably in the single digits to teens F though there were huge differences when we crossed a reentrant--I got noticeably colderr then. As it was, I was already cold even though it was a sunny and warmer day than it had been.

Calisthenics (General) 4:00 [3]
slept:7.0

After a 6 hour car ride from St. Petersburg, RU to Sortavala, we went to the Skazka orphanage and visited Max. He's walking now and blabbering much more too. I had him sit up on my neck while he batted baloons hangng form the ceiling. While he enjoyed this throrouhly, my neck started to ache. After we had to leave, we took a 4.5 hour minibus ride to Petrazavodsk. After preparing for court for the next day, I did 45 situps and 30 pushups in the Severrnaya Hotel. My neck and back hurt a little.

slept:7.0 weight:173.5lbs

45 situps and 30 pushups in the Petro Palace Hotel in St. Peterrsburg, Russia. After flying across the Atlantiic, a couple hour layover in Paris and another flight to St. Petersburg, we were ready to run. However we had to wait until our passports cleared checkin at the hotel and it got dark. Instead we walked Nevesky Prospect to get some dnner. It was exceedingly cold. Though only -15 C, it was damp air and a chlll breeze blew that hurt my face.

slept:8.5 weight:174.5lbs

Little Bennett Regional Park, MD. Warm-up for day two of the QOC Club Championships and the QOC MD Championship. I jogged around with Dave Onkst trying to get comfortable. With temperatures in the low 40's F, kind of damp air, and a good breeze I needed gloves and a jacket.

Day 2 of the QOC Club Championships and the QOC MD Championships. I ran less crazy this week and made fewer errors. The errors I made were generally small. It was a bit wet out after rains the previous night but the course was fast. The the green was overmapped in a few areas. I missed the road route on the way to #9. I got tired and slowed in the middle but finished better. My run-in was quick enough for me to pass and place ahead of Ted Good by 9 seconds (we ran at separate times). Dave Onkst was close behind at 83 minutes. Scott Pleban won the day in 73 minutes. Randy was second. Jon Torrance didn't come. My run gave me the title of MD Champion and 3rd in the club. See the Split List. It was a nice to do this as it probably was my last O-meet before taking on the duties of being a father. Peggy and I go to Russia tommorow.
