Ken Gar Palisades, Rock Creek Park, MD. From Ken Gar I ran down to the Connecticutt Ave. underpass and back. We got there a bit late. Peggy and I had run into our old friend Nick Panebianco who was just turning around. He was continuing his yearly marathon training and rotating his group's running through Bethesda again. I caught-up to him then ran with him. At first we went pretty slow, partly stuck behind another runner in front of us. With Nick on my left and me pushing Max on the right, he didn't want to push the pace and end-up leaving me and I didn't want to push the pace to leave him. At a road crossing we finally got around the slower runner and our politeness and picked it up a bit. It wasn't until the near the turnaround where Nick would go on that Nick told me he was in-between jobs. Being a one-income family with a morgage, with a 5 year old daughter and expecting to adopt another kid soon, he said it in a way that made it clear he didn't let it worry him much. He just said he was in-between jobs for the last month. He anticipated leaving the current one anyway but wasn't expecting to leave so soon. I think the running helps give him peace of mind. He's involved in organizing runners for Big Brothers Big Sisters charity events too. It's refreshing to know of such people. Max enjoyed his company too. I would have turned back sooner but the opportunity to run with Nick was good. With lack of training, I felt it coming back and got tight in the calves even before finishing. Available mile splits: 9:55, 9:21, 8:32, 8:33.
