Rosaryville State Park, MD. After a long hiatus from running due to being ill, I felt good enough to go easy and long. After paying my entry at the park entrance gate, I drove up and then saw signs about much of the park being reserved today. There were some dog trackers having competitions or training. The dogs were to follow human scent. Fortunately for me, I talked with the organizers. The dogs out today were young and not skilled enough to track in the woods like the advanced ones. The organizers were okay with me cutting across a field they had just finished using and I was out of their way once in the woods.
I ran with my trail shoes and mostly followed a draft 10.8K blue course that I had setup on paper. I got to some other controls too. Early on, I learned that a lot of gullies were not yet on Jon Torrance's draft map. Gullies in this park are deep and will weigh-in on navigation decisions significantly. Some are over 5m deep. Vegetation, though field checked had not yet been finished getting drafted onto the map yet either so my planned course will probably need to be shortened. I had hoped that the many trails would make 10.8K achievable in 80 minutes--someone might still do that but for a local meet, it's probably better to be shorter. It was fun getting out. I didn't get very tired and had stopped or walked in places to validate control locations.
