Hiking (Foot) 1:15:00 [1] 2.0 mi (37:30 / mi)
slept:6.25 weight:174lbs (sick)

Pohick Bay Regional Park, VA. Walking with Max to/from a generous motorboat ride given by Tom and Trish Strat, then to the pool and a couple of trips to the bathroom. With more coaxing needed than I expected, Max got towed in an innertube. It wasn't clear if he was enjoying it but he did smile a lot. Being ill but getting better, it was victory enough for me just to have made it to the park. I chose to stay out of the river water. On the way to and from the boat, Max and I picked a few blackberries to eat.

Swimming (General) 15:00 [3]
(sick)

Playing and splashing in the Pohick Pool with Max while others struggled in the heat with slope control practice as part of Summer Short Series training. The pool water was cool. I did get out of breath easily but managed some strokes when there was open water. There wasn't a lot of open water since the park was packed for the holiday weekend.

Note
slept:12.0 weight:173.5lbs (sick)

The fevers and chills continued. I left my bicycle at work yesterday and Peggy and Max picked me up from the metro station. After a couple of tries at seeing a doctor today, I finally got to see one. The diagnosis is strep throat. I got antibiotics. The consolation is that my weight is down :)

Bicycling (Commute) 11:00 [3] 2.1 mi (5:14 / mi)
slept:6.25 weight:175lbs (sick)

From Northfield Rd. to Ayrlawn Park and back using the trail-a-bike to drop off Max. I still felt a bit tired. I was very lethargic, especially going up hills with Max. I attribute this to being sick.
8 AM

Bicycling (Commute) 38:08 [3] 12.03 mi (3:10 / mi)
(sick)

From Northfield Rd., Bethesda, MD, to 12th & C St. SW, Washington, D.C. After dropping off Max, I switched over to my road bike. My lethargy continued. I took it easy most of the time, passing a normal number of people but rode alone. It was a cool morning with a tailwind along the water coming from the NE. Going home could be a grind. At home, I had packed my black shoes for work but in the closet darkness, I grabbed 2 lefts--one new and one the same exact style but older--oops! At least I can sit in my office most of the time. Right now, I'm chilled and shivering.

Bicycling (Commute) 11:37 [3] 2.1 mi (5:32 / mi)
slept:4.75 weight:176.5lbs

From Northfield Rd. to Ayrlawn Park and back using the trail-a-bike to drop off Max. I still felt a bit tired.
8 AM

Bicycling (Commute) 36:04 intensity: (18:04 @3) + (18:00 @4) 12.13 mi (2:58 / mi)

From Northfield Rd., Bethesda, MD, to 12th & C St. SW, Washington, D.C. After dropping off Max, I switched over to my road bike. It was a speedy morning with fast company just after River Rd. There was some sharing of leads on a pace line and through some maintenance with trucks on the trail, then after MacArthur Blvd., it got faster. One withered looking guy zipped by at 26mph and got us to 27mph at times before slowing to 23mph on the flats. Of course a tailwind (from the west?) helped. I'm getting a bit of a summer cold.
5 PM

Bicycling (Commute) 42:13 [4] 11.85 mi (3:34 / mi)
(sick)

From 12th & C St. SW, Washington, D.C. to Northfield Rd., Bethesda, MD. I had to pay for the tailwind in the morning by going against it on the way home. It wasn't so bad but with already being tired and pushing the pace more than I should, it was not so fun. I did pull a few other guys up the grade to Bethesda. My cold is worsening. After getting home, Max, Peggy, Bob Angel and I watched a fireworks show in our old neighborhood from Lynbrook Park.

slept:5.5 weight:176.5lbs

From Northfield Rd. to Ayrlawn Park and back using the trail-a-bike to drop off Max. The weather was not bad but already feeling humid. A bunny rabbit raced us for a way and won. I felt rather stiff.

Running (Street & Trail) 10:43 [2] 0.97 mi (11:03 / mi)
ahr:143 max:153 slept:6.75 (injured)

Warm-up jog to the start of the WPOC Keystone Capers at Keystone Park, PA. I had much more time to get ready today. I also felt rather sore starting off. This was from the race yesterday and not having run much the last few weeks.
9 AM

Orienteering race (Foot) 1:13:27 [4] *** 7.4 km (9:56 / km)
ahr:155 max:191 spiked:12/16c (injured)

WPOC: Keystone Capers at Keystone Park, PA. The course today was much more off-trail but still not very technical. I felt better running and executed routes much better. I still made some small errors including the last 2 controls before the Go control. I got through the course without aggrivating my left calf too much. I was fairly tight afterward. I enjoyed Tom Overbaugh's course and spending some time by the lake afterward.
