Orienteering (Course Setting) 1:24:05 [3] ** 3.7 km (22:44 / km) +75m 20:38 / km
spiked:12/13c slept:6.5 weight:177.5lbs

From Dufief Elementary School, in Gaithersburg, MD, I ran into Muddy Branch Park and setup a few courses for an exercise in route choice. It involved having people move through small courses with short legs going each leg one route, jogging back, then running it another direction for comparison before moving on to the next leg. I used QOC's epunch training kit and was thus able to give people with their epunches a printout after they finished. Most followed the exercise and seemed to feel it was worthwhile. They thought the woods were very nice for running. I was happy to be running a little again, after a week of my feet hurting from the Rogaine last weekend. I was still weakish and slow but it was hard to tell how much of that was from the heat and carrying stuff for the course (Gatorade, mini controls, and small epunch boxes). It was 93 F when I started and quite humid. As I was setting, I was a bit surprised at how much more summer growth there was. I'd tied the epunch boxes to my mini controls and some of these had gotten tangled thus lengthening my time out with untangling work. There were some bugs buzzing about near my ear sometimes but not so many ones that were biting. Most of the controls could be attacked fairly easily from trails. I misplaced one control, hanging it on a southern cairn instead of a northern one--both were really close so no one seemed to notice.

Orienteering (Control Pickup) 58:24 [3] ** 4.0 km (14:36 / km) +75m 13:21 / km
spiked:13/13c

From Dufief Elementary School, Gaithersburg, MD, to Muddy Branch Park to pickup controls. I had just gotten back my mountain bike and with it being hot, I rode most of the way. I had to leave the bicycle several times to jog over to a few controls. It cooled-off to 91 F by the time I was done. It was fun to ride the bike on dirt trails again and it worked rather well with a new front derailer. I was able to climb everything but felt weak still. I met the larger part of the group for dinner later.

Bicycling (Commute) 9:10 intensity: (4:59 @1) + (4:11 @3) 1.45 mi (6:19 / mi)
slept:6.5 weight:179lbs

From Northfield Rd. to the Bethesda Metro Station. I'm still feeling tired and weak from Rogaining but a little better. My feet are still a bit swollen; enough so that it's uncomfortable in my work shoes. I had to take them off during several of the hours that I was on back to back conferences for today.

Bicycling (Commute) 6:20 [3] 1.41 mi (4:30 / mi)

From the Bethesda Metro Station, to Northfield Rd. After about midday, my feet felt almost normal. I could walk around at an almost normal speed though there was still some swelling, remaining blisters to heal, and a bruised feeling on the foot pad. The ride home, as short as it was, was a nice change of pace from the busy day at work.

Bicycling (Commute) 9:53 intensity: (3:53 @1) + (6:00 @3) 1.41 mi (7:01 / mi)
slept:6.0 weight:179lbs

From Northfield Rd. to the Bethesda Metro Station. Like yesterday, I rode along while Max walked to a summer camp bus stop. I felt a little better than yesterday but the balls of my feet are still somewhat bruised.
9 PM

Bicycling (Commute) 6:38 [3] 1.41 mi (4:42 / mi)

From the Bethesda Metro Station, to Northfield Rd. My feet are still sore and achy from the ROGAINE. My left little toe felt cramped in my shoe and was inflamed/swollen. Like yesterday, I got stuck in what might have been the same metro car with a broken air conditioner. Going home later meant fewer people on the train so it wasn't as hot. Neither was the ride home.

Bicycling (Commjute) 10:33 intensity: (4:59 @1) + (5:34 @3) 1.45 mi (7:16 / mi)
slept:9.0 weight:176.5lbs

From Northfied Rd. to the Bethesda Metro Station. I rode while Max walked up to his summer camp bus stop then rode-in figuring it'd be easiest this way (less walking). The balls of my feet hurt on the pedals being a little bruised and blistered from the CNYO Rogaine.
6 PM

Bicycling (Commute) 6:53 [3] 1.41 mi (4:53 / mi)

From the Bethesda Metro Station, to Northfield Rd. I was rather worn out throughout the day at work; blisters or bruises on my feet ached while walking, in ways that they didn't while in the ROGAINE. On the ride home, I got into a metro car that had no air conditioning; by the way it was getting hotter, it seemed that hot air was blowing into the car. That made ride in the heat going home seem pleasant.
