Bicycling (Commute) 39:30 [3] 12.2 mi (3:14 / mi) +28m 3:13 / mi
weight:202lbs

From Northfield Rd., Bethesda, MD, to 13th & C St. SW, Washington, DC. I was moving along, mostly by myself. Not working too hard, I got caught just before Georgetown but I passed the young woman on Water St. A guy who'd been behind her passed me next. As we took different routes toward the Kennedy Center I got ahead again. He diverged down Independence Ave. while I went up Ohio Dr. where it's safer. There had been a slight tailwind. My time is estimated since I'd failed to restart my watch at an intersection, only realizing it at Bradley Blvd.

Bicycling (Commute) 45:26 [3] 12.0 mi (3:47 / mi) +135m 3:40 / mi

From 13th & C St. SW, Washington, D.C. to Northfield Rd., Bethesda, MD. Leaving work had the advantage of there being less traffic. I kept a good cadence. There weren't many other cyclists out to push me and with a weekend or running coming up, I didn't want to overdo it; I'd have rather done this ride on Wednesday but with Samantha being sick, my plans changed.

Bicycling (Commute) 16:24 [3] 3.1 mi (5:17 / mi) +51m 5:02 / mi

From Northfield Rd., to Bethesda Ave. Max buggered-out of tutoring early to join me on a trip getting our hair cuts. It was a nice night. Max has gotten to be a stronger cyclist. Samantha was sick this day and that translated to postponing my ride to work.

When the weather was forecasting thunderstorms, I had planned to run. However, my back was hurting in the morning. It extended down into my right leg, restricting my walking a little. Fortunately this loosened up and I was much better by the end of the day.

Bicycling (Road) 29:11 [3] 4.49 mi (6:30 / mi) +59m 6:15 / mi

I pulled Samantha around on her trailer bike. Max went along for a while on his electric scooter. I was tired from the orienteering the day before. My legs were weak on hills but it wasn't too bad. In the past, I've run a similar course in about the same time as this.

Orienteering race (Foot) 2:14:35 [3] 9.5 km (14:10 / km) +310m 12:11 / km

QOC: Fountainhead West. I messed-up a lot on this effort. It was in the 80s F and humid from the weeklong rains. Being overweight had a lot to do with my slowness. Getting used to full leaf cover was also part of it. The errors I made were somewhat basic. For #5, I was low. For the largest error, on #8, I stopped one ridge early and it took me a long time to realize it fully. For #12, I went around some green to the left but didn't correct enough, even when I could see the bending of a large reentrant. Two of the 4 water stops had no water. I did have fun but it was a little discouraging. Afterward, my family ate a late lunch with the Onkst. We talked about using Fran Uhler for the next Bumble, and re-mapping that. It's intriguing since the last I saw of the area, it was very dilapidated with fallen trees blocking trails and deep ATV ruts filling with water. Dave assures me the authorities have fixed it up. I went home, mowed the lawn and took a shower. I'd weighed-out the lowest in a long while at 199lbs.
