so I figured I'd go for an easy classic ski to give the skate muscles a break, except that when I got around to leaving I couldn't find my small collection of kick wax anywhere. so I went on what was left on the skis, which was apparently not the right temperature, or just wasn't gobbed on horribly enough, but I generally had no kick. so lots of dp. but it was a nice day and there were mobs of people there, so it was still good.

Now don't get me wrong, New England is great and all. But I just did 20k under clear blue skies while sweating my junk off in a t-shirt on the finest icy corn snow that HF10 has to offer, all in the middle of February. Tahoe is good.

VT Ski-O: Grafton
Fun course set by the Bermans. Two maps, with some good route choice between the valley bottom and the side of the hill. Snowing like crazy the whole time, and I was freezing for most of the day. Everything was pretty sore today, maybe racing almost every day for the last two+ weeks is starting to wear on me. Finished third to Adrian and Scott.

Ski-O Sprint - Long
Fundraiser sprint event for the ski-o team at Dad's house. I don't suppose my time really counts for too much, since I know all the trails, helped make the course, and hung all the bags. But we were playing for repeat runs anyway, so I suppose I can compete against those. Only looked at the map a couple times, and didn't even realize I went past the map exchange withou flipping the map until three controls later.

ski-o! race 6:57 intensity: (10 @1) + (11 @2) + (3:16 @3) + (3:20 @4) *** 1.61 km (4:19 / km)

Ski-O Sprint Short course
Around the short course, which I definitely didn't know as well as the long one. But I still knew where all the controls were, so I could read ahead a couple legs at a time. Super fun course since it skipped the hills, so the whole thing was at top speed.
3 PM

skate ski 30:00 [2]
shoes: mystery mix-n-match

picking up controls and a few bonus laps to loosen up. all no poles.

US Ski-O Long Champs
At Craftsbury. Long and brutal. Snow conditions were good on the main trails, the snowmobiled ones mostly had enough snow, some were just dirty. The course had a couple good long legs with big route choice, and the map had some good features to play around with (lakes, hills, swamps). Fun all around. Started near the front for blue guys, caught up to the two ahead of me early in the first loop, then held off Scott Pleban (started 4 mins back) for the middle part. He had a good route choice on the last long leg and caught me three controls from the end, but then blew it going into the control and I got back ahead of him. Managed to hold him off until the finish, but he sill won by 3 mins. Then me, then Nikolay a minute back.
8 PM

hiking 2:00:00 [2]

shoveling more trails and setting out control stands around dad's house until the wee hours of the night.
