Event: BATONA 500

orienteer race 1:19:22 [4] *** 5.35 km (14:50 / km)
ahr:162 16c

Ah, flat terrain! Maybe the woods will be open, too? Well, that was too much to ask.

Apparently, it was also too much to ask for my brain to function right at the start. I was hesitant and didn't read the map well, in addition to drifting off line. Messed up 3 and 5 pretty badly, and 7 a little bit, too. After that I seemed to settle down; maybe the blueberries had tired me out, so that I had to go slower and pay attention????

Overall, I wasn't too pleased with my navigatation. Did OK moving through the blueberries, in the sense that I wasn't absolutely exhausted at the end; just very fatigued.

orienteer (short and hilly) 1:27:15 [3] *** 5.76 km (15:09 / km)
ahr:146 17c

Practice course at Wyandotte. My plan is to work on moving faster through the woods, including up and down hills. So I often took the straight-line route, even if a trail or road option was available. I started a bit too hard, and died by the end. However, this was my first time running the whole course, so this is a good baseline measurement. I plan to run this course once a month through the winter O season.

Swampfox would hate this course; the woods are gross. But it makes me tough :)
