Webster Park, Green course. Finished 3rd out of 13 starters. Straight-line course distance was stated to be 5.5 km.
No big problems. A few route choices that in retrospect seemed sub-optimal, but AP said I only lost 52 seconds, and that was all on #5. I'm not quite sure how that is calculated though; there were two other controls where my time was 5th best; since I finished 3rd overall, it seems that if I was worse than 3rd on a particular control, that would mean I lost time on that control.
On #5, I opted against the straight line route as that went through about 100 m of medium green, and some dark green. I'm not sure if others went straight and it wasn't as bad as I was afraid it would be, or if there was some other reason for lost time.
On #8, I pondered the longer trail route, along the southern edge of the park, but chose a more direct route that went through about 200 m of mostly light, but some medium, green -- that worked out OK, but I'm not sure if it would have been faster to go the longer route, which was virtually all trails.
Going from 11 to 12, I chose to wade through the creek, which cut off some distance and more importantly got 90% of the mud off of my shoes.
